Create Channels From Streams can be told to skip whole networks. A new setting, Networks to
Skip When Creating Channels, takes a comma-separated list. A station carrying one of those
networks is reported and skipped rather than created, and the preview export lists it under
skip, network excluded so it is visible rather than silently missing.
Two signals decide it, because neither is enough on its own. Measured on one installation: of the
14 Telemundo stations reachable from the provider stream names, 13 carry a Telemundo affiliation on
their FCC record while KUAN carries an empty one and is identifiable only from the word in its
stream name. The affiliation is read through station_affiliation.py, which parses that free text
properly, rather than a substring test, because the FCC field is not maintained to a standard.
This is the first thing in the plugin to call that module.
Excluded stations are kept separate from unresolved ones. A station that resolved and was filtered
out by choice is a different fact from a name nothing could make sense of, and folding the two
together would hide a filter matching more than its author intended.
It reads what a station is, not what it carries. The first version of the filter read every
network named in a station's affiliation field, and a dry run then excluded 21 stations of which 6
were not Telemundo at all: WSOC is ABC, KZTV, KWTX and KIRO are CBS, WFOX and KMVU are FOX, and each
merely runs Telemundo on a subchannel. It now reads the station's primary network. Six real
affiliation strings from the shipped station table are pinned as test cases.
