What's new in 0.5.2435
- Driving follows Google's route wherever it differs from the open router, so closures and local detours are respected; a turn is named only when the map is sure of the street
- A new look: photo result cards, a Google-style drive bar, a real landscape layout, round map buttons, sheets that slide and follow a back swipe, and Google Sans Flex as the default font
- Roads draw at their real width with the route line on them, alternate routes stand out, and 3D buildings rise when you tilt the map
- In a drive, the road name under the car is the street's own name, a freeway shows its number with the direction its signs give ("I 80 E"), and the road's shield rides on the route line
- Trips with stops are fixed: a stop counts as reached again, so a reroute no longer sends you back through one you already visited, and leaving a saved route takes you on from where you are
- Smoother at the start of a drive, while panning or spinning the map mid-drive, and zoomed all the way in on a dense downtown; a pinch zooms at any pace and can turn the map in the same gesture; an idle map uses much less battery
- A Google Maps trip link opens as the trip it describes: plan a route with stops on a desktop, then paste the link into search or tap it, and it opens with its stops and the points you dragged it through
- Save a route or a trip with stops and start it in one tap, pin a trip to the home screen, and keep a drive that went its own way; trips take up to 10 stops
- "Open now" asks Google for the places open now, so a late search finds what is still open
- Saved places: the search page shows the ones you pin, and the rest are under the bookmark button
- Lists: select several places to move or remove, and give a list a sound that plays when you drive past one of its places
- Transit lines on the map in their own colors, station and line names in your language, options for fewer transfers and less walking, and transit directions with Google off
- Offline: download just the part of a region you frame, long drives route in under a second, and offline search finds the places on the map
- Draw lines and areas on the map, and open Google My Maps links with their pins and shapes
- Android Auto gets nearby gas, food, coffee, parking and charging, Saved and Settings on the car's home screen, and a map that pans and pinches; Android Automotive is supported
- The first run asks whether to route around license plate cameras and warn you near them
- Directions can be shown and spoken in another language than the menus (Settings > Appearance > Directions language)
- Speed camera warnings show a card as well as speaking, the arrival card can save your parking spot, and two keys of your choice can zoom the map
- "Traffic-light guidance" works: "Pass the traffic light, then turn left" (English, off by default)
- No location indoors on GrapheneOS? Vela shows a tip with a button to the Network location setting
- Street View works again after Google switched off the old lookup, and viewed panoramas are kept for offline
- Fixed: a crash on Android 9, a failed start on Android 14, empty search results on Android 16, reroutes that told a moving car to turn around, a drive that never ended when you parked short of the last turn, routes that cut through farm tracks with Google off, AMOLED black with Material You colors, and typing in search on a physical keyboard
- New languages: Estonian, Kurdish (Kurmanji) and Brazilian Portuguese
