What's changed in 0.4.1217
This stable is a week early. The OpenStreetMap operations team blocked Vela's user agent on the public Overpass server for the volume the app was sending (issue #304), and the fix is in this build: Vela no longer queries Overpass anywhere a region file exists, which is the whole catalog. Traffic lights, stop signs, level crossings, speed humps and speed cameras now come from small per-region files baked from the Geofabrik extracts, and saving an offline area reads the region's place pack. If you are on 0.4.1099 or older, please update; older builds keep hitting Overpass and may get caught by the automatic volume bans until they are gone.
Two more reasons to update. The reviews on the place sheet had been broken for everyone since 0.4.1099, and nightlies since 0.4.1180 could freeze at the start of a long drive while the new road-feature files were searched on the main thread; both are fixed here.
- Reviews load again, and the full-screen review page scrolls both ways.
- Spoken and typed commands: "take me home", "navigate to the station", "Davis to San Francisco", "nearest pharmacy", "what's my ETA", in every app language, tolerant of dictation slips.
- Search leads with places near you and can pull more results.
- Directions mode chips show each mode's travel time; the picker says when a route was computed offline.
- The first GPS fix no longer yanks a map you have already panned; house numbers get a zoom setting.
- Hungarian, with spoken directions and the Anna voice.
- OpenStreetMap credit on the map and in About.
- The nav bar and the step list are one sheet: drag the bar up and the turns appear under it, up to the turn banner.
- Puck size and colour settings, custom order for Your lists, and the fixes from the September review.
