ShredOS Lite vs. Full: System RAM Requirements
ShredOS now offers Lite versions for both x86-64 (64-bit) and i686 (32-bit) architectures, specifically designed for low-resource hardware.
Memory Requirements:
- Lite Versions: Boot successfully with just 512MB of RAM.
- Standard Versions: Requires a minimum of 2GB of RAM to run properly.
Notable changes in this release - ShredOS
- ShredOS grub and ISOLinux boot menus now contain memtest86 so that if you wish to test and confirm your CPU RAM is fault free you can now do this from the ShredOS boot menu. Thanks @PartialVolume #462
- If booting ShredOS on a system with a bitlocker encryted system disc, ShredOS would fail to find it's boot disc. This has been corrected. Thanks @desertwitch #472
- Removed rpcbind from the remaining defconfigs that still contained it, (shredos_defconfig and shredos_iso_extra_defconfig). Since it is only necessary for NFS environments and presents potential security vulnerabilities, we have disabled it by default. While ShredOS should typically be shielded by hardware firewalls, this change ensures ShredOS remains secure even in less-than-ideal network configurations. Thanks @PartialVolume #479
- Added the nano editor. Thanks @desertwitch
- Added 32 EFI to 64 bit ShredOS for a small minority of 64bit systems that require a 32 bit EFI. Thanks @desertwitch #468
- Added the Smart monitor terminal (SmartDMT) in virtual console (ALT F4) for easy display of disk drive smart data while wiping disks. Thanks @desertwitch #465
