github Ozark-Connect/NetworkOptimizer v2.10.5

3 hours ago

On-Site Agent update (the v2.10.3 Agent, unchanged in v2.10.4 and v2.10.5): if your On-Site Agent never comes online on a host whose IPv6 doesn't work, or sits behind a reverse proxy that closes its connection, update it so it falls back to IPv4 and reconnects within seconds. If you updated on v2.10.3 or v2.10.4, you're set. If you skipped v2.10.1, the update also applies Automatic Blocking Exceptions on a gateway Agent. If you skipped v2.10.0, its Agent also adds WAN Flood Protection (UniFi OS 6.0.x EA), blocking without reprovisioning, and LAN speed test hosting on the gateway, plus link speeds that follow a renegotiation (SNMP) and packet loss testing (WAN Speed Tests) on any Agent. Press Run It for Me under your site in Settings - Multi-Site, or run the upgrade command yourself.

Cellular Stats for the UDR-5G-Max's built-in modem, speed test alerts that watch both directions, and fixes for a Settings page that went blank and a Security Audit finding that read as a false positive. See the v2.10.0, v2.10.1, v2.10.2, v2.10.3, and v2.10.4 release notes for what's new in v2.10.0+.

Coming Soon

  • Change Control - a history of every configuration change on your sites, with who made it, what it did to your Security Audit, and Roll Back, and an incident lists the changes from the two hours before it. Try it now in v2.11.0-preview10.

Monitoring - Cellular Stats

  • UDR-5G-Max support (#1336) - Scan for Modems finds its built-in modem now, and it polls with your Gateway SSH credentials (password, key file, or Managed SSH Key) rather than the Device SSH ones. To add it by hand, pick UniFi UDR-5G-Max (Gateway SSH) as the provider. We built it from the UniFi OS firmware image rather than a live unit, so it hasn't been tested on real hardware yet: if you have one, please let us know how it goes on #1336.

Alerts & Schedule

  • Fix: speed test regression alerts only watched one direction - a To Device drop on a LAN or client speed test, or an upload drop on a WAN speed test, never raised one. Both directions count now, and the alert names the one that dropped.
  • WAN Speed Test: Degradation turns itself on at a site's first successful WAN speed test. It shipped off and stayed off until you found it. A rule you turned off, edited, or deleted is left alone.
  • A Client Speed Test: Regression rule is in the defaults now, off: those tests run from whatever device and network the person is on, so a smaller drop is often their Wi-Fi rather than your network.

Security Audit

  • Fix: Firewall: Gateway Management Exposed with no reason given when a block rule covered the gateway's management ports on that network's own gateway address only (#1329, thanks @PDubya56). The finding names that rule now and says to set its destination to any address in the Gateway zone, and it counts as Recommended with a smaller score impact, since the rule does protect the gateway's current addresses.

LAN Speed Test

  • Fix: a device added by hostname kept showing an older failed test in Other Device Speed Test after a newer test passed.

Multi-Site

  • Fix: saw-tooth latency charts after every restart on a site with two On-Site Agents, which both collected for about a minute. When the collecting Agent dropped, the other also took up to a minute to take over.

Fixes

  • Fix: Settings went blank right after opening on a UniFi Console whose firewall policy list repeats a policy (#1333, thanks @chewthrudacord).

Installation

Windows: Download the MSI installer below

Docker (Upgrade):

docker compose pull && docker compose up -d

macOS (native, recommended for accurate speed tests vs Docker Desktop):

git clone https://github.com/Ozark-Connect/NetworkOptimizer.git && cd NetworkOptimizer && ./scripts/install-macos-native.sh
# or if you already have it cloned
cd NetworkOptimizer && git pull && ./scripts/install-macos-native.sh

Proxmox:

bash -c "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Ozark-Connect/NetworkOptimizer/main/scripts/proxmox/install.sh)"
# or if you just need to update
pct exec <CT_ID> -- bash -c 'cd /opt/network-optimizer && docker compose pull && docker compose up -d && docker image prune -f'

For other platforms (Synology, QNAP, Unraid, native Linux) or new installations, see the Deployment Guide.
