This is a preview (beta) build of Network Optimizer 2.0 for testers. Pin the tag below - do not use :latest, which stays on stable 1.x. The headline is Multi-Site, and there's plenty here for single-site users too. Feedback very welcome.

This build is beta.2 plus the fixes below.

Update your on-site agents with this release

This beta changes the agent tunnel contract, so update each site's agent alongside the server: re-run the install one-liner from Settings > Multi-Site > (site) > Agents, or docker compose pull && docker compose up -d for Docker agents. The agent list now flags agents running an older release. This churn is a beta thing - after 2.0 ships, agent updates will be rare, and a built-in update system is planned.

Fixes since beta.2

  • Port Statistics "Client" column on managed sites - The agent never relayed the SNMP interface index needed to correlate switch ports, leaving the column empty. Fixed.
  • Phantom gateway ports - Virtual interfaces could claim real port numbers and names, showing duplicate port rows on gateways. Fixed, and old bad rows heal themselves after upgrading.
  • Client column in playback - Scrubbing Port Statistics back in time now shows which client was on which port. History from before this release has no port data, so it fills from upgrade time.
  • UI freeze switching to a site whose agent is down - Console calls now fail fast into the "waiting for the agent" state instead of hanging pages for a minute-plus, and reconnect the moment the agent returns.
  • Monitoring charts after a console outage - Charts on the Monitoring page stayed blank once the console (re)connected until you switched tabs. They now load on their own.
  • Optical (SFP / ONT) tables blank after a restart - The live readings grid now warms itself from recorded data at startup instead of waiting minutes for the next polling cycle.
  • Site status indicators disagreed - The site picker, All Sites page, and Multi-Site settings each had their own stale idea of agent status. All now share one live, tunnel-driven definition.
  • WAN speed tests on agentless managed sites - The test buttons and links now explain the site's agent is required instead of silently measuring or recording against the wrong network.
  • 2D LAN map fullscreen - Fixed fullscreen not expanding the 2D topology map.
  • Monitoring chart polish - Tooltips on the RTT, Network Performance, and Device Health charts sort by value to match the line order and no longer clip; compacter filter badges and spacing tweaks throughout.
  • Monitoring deep links before setup - Now land on Setup instead of an empty page.

What's New in 2.0

  • Multi-Site - Manage multiple networks from one Network Optimizer. Each site is fully isolated: its own database, monitoring, speed tests, alerts, threat intelligence, and UniFi Console connection. Turn it on under Settings > Multi-Site.
  • Agent-backed remote sites - Add a site on another network by running a lightweight on-site agent that tunnels back to your main instance. Gateway/device SSH, modem and ONT status, WAN and LAN speed tests, SNMP and custom OID polling, path analysis, and Network Tools probes all work - no VPN, no port forwarding. A guided wizard handles enrollment.
  • Per-site everything - Monitoring, ISP Health, alerts and digests, threat intelligence, path analysis, and InfluxDB buckets are all scoped per site.

Also improved for everyone (single-site too)

  • Settings reorganized into tabs - Connection, Monitoring, Speed Tests, Security & Alerts, Application, Multi-Site.
  • Network Tools - TCP ping does a real TCP connect from gateway and device vantages; friendlier vantage labels.
  • WAN Speed Test - The gateway (direct) test raises completion and degradation alerts.

WAN speed tests on managed sites

  • Start from the site's agent - The WAN Speed Test page on an agent-backed site links through the on-site agent (https://<agent>:3000/wan/), which forwards to your external test server. Results land in the right site, attributed to the client device's LAN IP - no site parameter in any URL. Picking a non-default server routes through /wan/<server-id>/ automatically.

Agent improvements

  • Update callout - Settings > Multi-Site > Configuration > Agents flags agents running an older release.
  • Plain-HTTP opt-out - Set AGENT_SPEEDTEST_TLS=0 to serve the agent's LAN speed test over HTTP instead of self-signed TLS (for sites behind their own reverse proxy). LAN tests only - the WAN post-back needs HTTPS. Details in the agent README.
  • Clearer speed test override - The per-site override field shows the auto-detected agent address as its placeholder, with a gear-icon shortcut from the speed test banner. SFP module codes show their vendor on hover.

Windows (MSI)

  • Agent tunnel out of the box - The bundled Traefik config now routes the multi-site agent tunnel, so remote agents can enroll against a Windows-hosted server without manual reverse-proxy work.

Trying this preview

Pin the beta tag - do not use :latest, which stays on stable 1.x. When 2.0 ships for real, switch back to :latest to rejoin the stable track. Multi-site is off by default, so your single-site experience is unchanged until you enable it.

Installation

Windows: Download the MSI installer below

Docker: edit your docker-compose.yml to pin the beta tags (since :latest stays on stable), then pull:

Proxmox (upgrade an existing LXC install - best-effort backs up the database, rewrites the compose tags, then pulls). Beta upgrades migrate your database and can't be rolled back to stable 1.x, so snapshot the LXC first:
