Note

Instructions for installing and upgrading Cosmos can be found here.

Cosmos now supports the Centauri 2 series of printers!

This is by far the biggest Cosmos release since the original 0.0.1 version! We have so much good stuff for you this month, but by far the biggest news is that Cosmos now supports the full range of Centauri 2 printers including Centauri 2, Centauri 2 Combo, Centauri Carbon 2 and Centauri Carbon 2 Combo. A massive shout out goes to @pdscomp who spent many hours rigorously testing and troubleshooting this new platform as well as @Atomique13 for being the brave soul to be the first person to test Cosmos on his Centauri 2 and of course all of the beta testers in the cosmos-testing thread on discord.

Installation instructions for Cosmos on CC2

  • Download the C2 or CC2 OTA upgrade .zip.sig file from this release
  • Place the .zip.sig file on a USB stick formatted to FAT32
  • Insert the USB stick into the printer
  • Go to offline updates, and install the Cosmos update version 26.10.00.00
  • After rebooting, you should be booted into Cosmos
  • Perform the machine calibration before printing
  • Use Cosmos for CC2 with the Cosmos for CC2 OrcaSlicer profile
  • IMPORTANT A backup copy of the Elegoo credentials file will have been written to the USB stick after flashing the image called ELEGOO.txt. If you ever happen to erase the internal storage and want to go back to stock firmware you will need this file otherwise your printer will not be able to communicate with the Elegoo cloud servers . Keep a copy of this file safe on your computer and don't share it with anyone.

Other Notable Changes

  • @suchmememanyskill has been working tirelessly making improvements to Canvas support and AFC.
  • And a big thanks to @pellcorp and @shawn-makes-stuff for many great improvements in Grumpyscreen.
  • Cosmos is now using Yocto 6.0 codename Wrynose. This update is much more on the technical side but with the new build system we have also updated a lot of system packages to the latest versions release. This includes Linux kernel 7.2.9 which offers some good zram performance improvements, Python 3.15.0 which can now lazy load system imports saving a good chunk of memory for us.
  • It is now possible to check for Cosmos updates from Mainsail and Fluidd using the Moonraker update_manager api. The release channel (stable or nightly) must still be configured from cosmos.conf but the update can now be seen and initiated from the web UI.
  • Support for the buzzer on the mainboard and canvas has been added for both CC1 and CC2 platforms. This can be called with with the normal M300 g-code command. The default buzzer is the buzzer on the mainboard but the canvas buzzer can be called with M300 target=canvas
  • Support for reading RFID spool data on the canvas unit has been added via OpenRFID. This means you can now load filament data directly into AFC just by holding the spool against the reader for a couple of seconds. Manufactueres that are supported are: Elegoo, TigerTag, OpenSpool, OpenTag3D, SpoolEase and Anycubic.
  • It is possible to restart the Klipper service from Mainsail and Fluidd using the Moonraker machine provider api. We have also fixed the commands to shutdown and reboot the printer from the web UI for ease of use.
  • We now support adding addons to kalico. This can be done using the addons command when connected over SSH. Available addons can be viewed using addons list and installed with addons install <addon name>. This will clone the addon into kalicos plugin directory and add a update_manager record in moonraker for keeping to plugin up-to-date. The plugin will still have to be configured in printer.cfg manually.
For those who have been using the dragonbreath integration this has now been moved out of cosmos and into addons so after updating, SSH in and run addons install dragonbreath.
  • A new macro section has been added in mainsail and grumpyscreen. The grumpyscreen configuration has been updated automatically, but if you want to see the new macro groups in mainsail; click "Setting" icon in the top right
settings Then go to the "Macros" tab and choose choose expert from the "Management" drop-down macros2 Then go back to the "General" tab and click "Factory reset" factory_reset Then check "Macros" and "UI-Settings" and click "Reset" factory_reset2
