Metroid Prime Trilogy support

The port now runs Metroid Prime from a Metroid Prime Trilogy disc (R3ME01 USA, R3MP01 PAL), with Trilogy's own Wii presentation:

  • Trilogy's HUD: Scan visor
  • Wii radial beam and visor menus, also on touch (slide a Beam/Visor button to point at an entry). With radial menus turned off, the corner menu icons show instead.
  • Trilogy saves: import and export on a Trilogy disc, and the port's card can mirror an emulator's Trilogy save. Switching from a GameCube disc offers to bring your saves over.

Also in this release: an experimental iPhone and iPad build, an OpenGL renderer, Remastered's thermal visor and a Remastered performance mode.

You need your own disc image: Metroid Prime Trilogy (R3ME01 USA, R3MP01 PAL), whose Metroid Prime is run as the base game, Metroid Prime USA (GM8E01, revisions 1.00, 1.01 and 1.02), or the experimental PAL release (GM8P01). No disc image or game assets are included.

What else changed

Saves

  • After switching to another release's disc (for example GameCube to Trilogy), the port offers to copy that release's newest saves over, randomizer and Archipelago cards included. The Memory card settings have a "Restore from …" button for later.

Rendering

  • OpenGL renderer on Linux and Windows (Settings > Renderer). The port falls back to OpenGL automatically when the default backend can't start (#202).
  • Mirrored room geometry no longer draws inside out, and Remastered door frames get their baked lighting back.
  • A depth pre-pass for room models, and no present resample when the frame already matches the window.

Prime Remastered

  • The Thermal Visor draws Remastered's cold and hot passes, with hot models through Remastered's thermal shader.
  • A performance mode, on by default (Mods > Prime Remastered > Performance mode)
  • The pause screen keeps its translucent blurred backdrop and text (#208), inventory lighting and HDR post on the pause screen's Samus, and HUD text panes at Remastered's size.
  • Many more models, effects and shaders: Ore Processing's EnergyField and rotating platforms, the pillar-route hologram, holo glass, Thardus, the Watery Hall rune gate, the intra-Mines elevator, flamejets, particle velocity programs and modulators, and light clusters built at the render target's resolution.

Input

  • Stick and touch aim no longer go through the mouse sensitivity (#209); the mouse default is now 3.0 (#210), the slider floor rises to 0.3 and touch aim speed reaches 10 (#211). Saved sensitivities are kept.
  • Moving the mouse no longer flickers the button prompts between controller and keyboard icons (#215).

Metroid Dread bodies

  • A first-person arm cannon from each suit's Dread body (optional), and the pause screen's Samus doll dressed.

Other

  • Third person: the grapple beam leaves Samus's left hand, the walk follows how far she moves, and the legs turn to strafe.
  • iPhone and iPad (experimental, #194): an unsigned .ipa to sideload, with the touch controls, the touch layout editor, a document picker for the disc and the data in the Files app. It starts in the iOS Simulator, but nobody has run it on a real device yet.
  • Android: a disc picked while Android destroyed the app is kept (#203), and the file pickers show the storage root.

Issues addressed

  • #202 OpenGL backend
  • #203 Android disc import lost on first launch
  • #208 Pause screen isn't translucent with Remastered
  • #209 Joystick aim speed shares the mouse's sensitivity scale
  • #210 Mouse sensitivity defaults
  • #211 Unbalanced sensitivity sliders
  • #214 Russian translation mod in the mods docs
  • #215 Input prompt flicker with mixed input
