Note

This is the first release candidate, now numbered 1.1.1. Compared with 1.1.0-beta, the text added for Program Output and the Status Dock is now translated into every language Branch Output supports, and several issues are fixed. The new features and changes listed in 1.1.0-beta still apply. Please try it and report any problems via Issues.

Behavior Changes

  • % in file names: A % in a source, filter, or Program Output name, or in the text the bundled file name scripts read, now stays in the file name as written. Before, OBS could read it as a date or time specifier, or drop it. For example, a text source showing %CCYY now gives %CCYY instead of the year. Write specifiers in Filename Formatting or in the script's Base Filename Format. (#187)
  • %3 to %99 in Filename Formatting: These are no longer replaced with the source or filter name. Only %1 (source name) and %2 (filter name) are, as the Filename Formatting tooltip shows. (#187)

Improvements

  • Translations: The text added in 1.1.0-beta, such as Program Output and the Status Dock's menus, is now translated into Catalan, Chinese (Simplified), French, German, Korean, Romanian, Russian, and Ukrainian.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed recording and replay buffer file names getting the wrong name in some cases. %1 is now always the source name and %2 the filter name (for a Program Output, Program and the Program Output's name). Before, a format with only %2 got the source name, and a source name or script text containing %1 got another name inserted into it. A format without %1 or %2 also no longer adds a warning to the OBS log each time it is applied. (#187)
  • Fixed Sent Size in the Status Dock going back to the output's total on the next update after a Reset. It now counts up from the Reset, like Drop Frames. (#188)
  • Fixed OBS possibly crashing or freezing when a crop value is negative, or the Frame Rate Divider is below 1 or very large. The properties cannot set such values, but obs-websocket or a hand-edited scene collection can. Now a negative crop value is limited to the edges of the source, and a negative crop width or height leaves nothing to output, so the output does not start. A divider below 1 is ignored. The OBS log shows a warning in both cases. (#202)
  • Fixed the Status Dock forgetting its column widths every time OBS 30.1.2 restarts. Other OBS builds that come with Qt 6.6.1 or 6.6.2 had the same problem. Column widths that were already reset need to be set once more. (#225)
  • Fixed Drop Frames in the Status Dock staying too low after a Reset when the output later restarted or its stream reconnected, especially while the dock was hidden. It now counts from the restart or reconnect. (#250)
  • Fixed the group of the video encoder's own settings in the filter and Program Output properties showing VideoEncoderSettings as its title.
  • Fixed "Replay Buffer" showing in English in Catalan and Romanian in the Replay Buffer group of the properties, the Status Dock's Interlock option, and the Status Dock's replay buffer rows.

Known Issues

New or changed since 1.1.0-beta:

  • Recordings end about 1 second early with x264 (less with hardware encoders). A recording stopped within about a second of its start can leave an empty file that cannot be played. Stopping or restarting a recording within that first second can also make OBS stop responding until that second has passed. With a Frame Rate Divider, both the missing end and this wait get longer, up to about 30 seconds at 1 fps. (#232)
  • In Filename Formatting, %Y, %M, %m, or %s written directly before %1 or %2 can merge with the first letter of the name. For example, %M%1 with a source named Mic gives the month followed by ic. With the replay buffer, this can make a save overwrite an earlier one. Put a space, -, or _ between them, or use the long form: %CCYY instead of %Y, %mm instead of %M, and %MM instead of %m. (#252)
Known issues unchanged from 1.1.0-beta
  • macOS: stopping a stream while it is trying to connect or reconnect to an RTMP server can freeze OBS. This can happen when you disable the filter, remove a Program Output, switch scene collections, or quit OBS while the server cannot be reached. (#238)
  • OBS can hang, rarely, when a recording or replay buffer stops while a script is setting its file name, for example when you quit OBS with the bundled file name scripts loaded. (#195)
  • Changing Settings → Video while a filter's stream is connecting or reconnecting can crash OBS. (#216)
  • With the default settings, a Program Output encodes together with OBS's own stream and recording. If its encoder cannot keep up, OBS's own stream or recording can drop frames too. There is no option to separate them yet; cropping or choosing a resolution different from OBS's output separates them.
  • Changes in a Program Output's settings window are lost if you switch profiles while the window is open.
  • After you switch the video encoder in a Program Output's settings, Cancel asks about unsaved changes even if nothing else changed.
  • A Program Output created while OBS uses the Simple output mode does not take the NVENC or AMF preset from OBS's settings. (#221)
  • When a recording fails to start, the Status Dock can keep showing "Recording" although nothing is recorded. (#230)
  • macOS, OBS 30.2–31.x: Hybrid MP4 with an Apple VT ProRes encoder writes a broken file. (#237)
  • The bundled file name scripts lose a filter that was deleted and brought back with Undo. On OBS 30.1 / 30.2, duplicating a scene collection also makes them lose their filters, and loses the hotkey assignments of streaming, recording, or replay buffer that are turned off. (#228, #233, #234)
  • Unapplied changes in the filter properties are saved with the scene collection and take effect when it is loaded again. (#174)
  • Clicking Apply without changing anything restarts the filter's outputs. (#178)
  • Turning on the replay buffer from the Status Dock or with a hotkey and clicking Apply right after can freeze OBS for a few seconds.
  • When a reconnect attempt hangs, OBS may stop responding for up to about 85 seconds while Branch Output recovers the stream.
  • An SRT listener with the default listen_timeout briefly stops accepting connections every 5 seconds. Stopping a listener with a large listen_timeout in its URL can block OBS.
  • OBS 31.0–31.1.x: an SRT stream can crash OBS when it stops without ever connecting, for example when a listener is stopped before anyone connects to it. This is a bug in OBS's own SRT output, fixed in OBS 32.0. (#244)
  • macOS, OBS 31.1: closing a Filters window that holds a Branch Output filter can crash OBS while an app using the Accessibility API is running. (#223)
  • With "Filter Input (Experimental)", an Image source with "Unload image when not showing" outputs black while it is not shown anywhere else in OBS.
  • Windows: the installer and the zip put the plugin into OBS's installation folder. OBS 33 still loads it from there as a legacy plugin, but OBS 34 will not. (#241)
