v2.0.0: the game launcher (Play, Update), flicker fixed

latest release: v2.0.1
one hour ago

Download HookshotBuilder.exe and run it, or accept the game's update offer. From this version on, releases have version
numbers.

The game has a launcher

  • Open hookshot.exe in your game folder (or the Hookshot shortcut): it shows your version and Play. When a newer
release is out, an Update button appears left of Play. It updates like the installer: only the parts of the builder that
changed are downloaded, and the game is rebuilt from the game files kept in its folder, compiling only what changed.
  • The game itself and its DLLs moved to bin\ in the game folder. Your saves, settings, shader caches and game files stay
where they are. Your next update converts the folder by itself.
  • Opening HookshotBuilder.exe directly also says when an update is available for your game, and the button becomes Update
(or Play when your game is up to date). It remembers your game files and install folder instead of picking the first file it
    finds (#603, #616).
  • The builder keeps only the version installed (#611: the previous one took 1.3 GB).

Fixes

  • Flickering (#574): each frame now waits for its GPU work on Windows too. The game rewrites data within a frame that our
GPU reads later than the console's; the flicker went away with the wait, for about 1.5 fps here.
  • Water flicker and the white haze / too bright or too dark zones in the fog, ported from Fritchii (Frizti's Lichii
fork): the water no longer samples a random texture, and the fog's light probes are read in full.
  • Crash on scene changes around Hyrule Castle, Castle Town and Kakariko (#287): a buffer the game maps without memory
gets scratch memory instead of address 0. Please tell us if you still crash there.
  • Neon colours on AMD when an upscale network is left out (PR #425 by klimovich008).
  • Fewer device-lost crashes on Windows (since fast-updates) and updates that reuse your compiled game; the build log now
says what decides whether compiled files are reused (#624).
