Moonlight v6.1.0-vrr9.1.1: Gaming Mode compatibility update (Beta)
This Linux refresh carries vrr9.1 onto the current upstream master and includes Moonlight's upstream workaround for the recent Gamescope/vkroots startup crash in SteamOS Gaming Mode while Valve works on the underlying bug.
The workaround does not disable VRR, HDR, hardware decoding, or Moonlight's frame pacing. It removes the need for the temporary Mesa downgrade and mask used by the vrr9.1 SteamOS installer.
What changed
- Linux: rebuilt as vrr9.1.1 with the upstream Gaming Mode compatibility workaround.
- Windows: no Windows code or binary changes are included. The MSI and portable ZIP attached here are byte-for-byte copies of the vrr9.1 downloads for convenience. Existing Windows vrr9.1 users do not need to update.
- Installer: the old SteamOS workaround script is intentionally not included.

Steam Deck / Linux installation
-
Switch to Desktop Mode and download the
.flatpakfile above. -
Open Konsole in the download folder.
-
Install or update it:
flatpak install --user --reinstall ./Moonlight-VRR-6.1.0-vrr9.1.1-linux-x86_64.flatpak
-
If Steam still points to another Moonlight installation, remove the old non-Steam shortcut and add Moonlight again in Desktop Mode.
-
Return to Gaming Mode and launch Moonlight.
No sudo, Mesa downgrade, Flatpak mask, or installer script is required.
If you previously ran the vrr9.1 SteamOS installer, its scheduled cleanup will remove the old compatibility pin automatically. To remove it immediately, close Flatpak applications and run:
~/.local/share/moonlight-vrr9.1/reset-compatibility-fix.shIf that file no longer exists, the cleanup has already run.
Using VRR
Use the same VRR settings and workflow as vrr9.1. This release changes Linux compatibility, not the VRR behavior.
