1.0.20-rc1 — TESTING PRERELEASE

pre-release3 hours ago

RC1 updates RC0 with the launcher overhaul, native asset PAK support, scenario and build-path fixes, File #2 progression unlocks and separate audio channels, and protected Windows/source CI.

Download RE-Outbreak-v1.0.20-rc1-Windows-x64.zip, extract the complete folder, and open Outbreak.Launcher.exe. The launcher includes its .NET runtime. Choose your own supported disc, then click Build game. Compilation downloads a verified portable compiler on first use; no Visual Studio installation or command-line setup is required.

Supported discs: File #1 NTSC-U v2.00 (SLUS-20765) and File #2 NTSC-U v1.05 (SLUS-20984). Keep both build-inputs ZIPs beside the launcher. The package keeps RC0's single-file launcher layout.

Fresh packaged installs use their own data folder beside the launcher, unless an existing storage.json selects another folder. RC0's automatic copying of old AppData launcher data has been removed. Existing selected storage folders remain supported.

Changes merged since RC0:

Additional RC1 changes:

  • File #2 now supports separate Master, Music, Sound effects, Voice and UI volume controls. Cinematic tracks containing mixed speech and music follow Master volume.
  • Per-game Windows audio-output selection, with fallback to the default output when the selected device is unavailable.
  • Optional spoken-dialogue subtitles, enabled by default. Interaction prompts and other required messages remain visible.
  • Maximum result points and infinite escape time cheats for both editions, alongside the existing offline cheats.
  • The File #2 Randomizer is included and configurable in the launcher. Both editions support custom seeds and mod deletion; the Randomizer remains experimental.
  • Shared memory-card profile selection, backup and deletion controls, plus separate launcher font, language and background preferences. English is currently the only language.
  • Pause launcher background movies while the game runs. Before installation, expose Play, Launcher, Game files and Log; enable the remaining settings after a game is installed.
  • Refreshed native build kits for both editions. Existing RC0 native builds need rebuilding to use the new runtime features.

Validation:

  • 1,226 launcher checks passed in the extracted, self-contained Windows package, using an isolated profile, a path with spaces and non-ASCII characters, and a system-only PATH.
  • 20 packaged navigation checks passed, including the fresh-install page restrictions and enabling settings after either edition is installed.
  • 102 local-build tool tests passed, with 11 environment-dependent skips. The actual C audio provider also compiled with the pinned LLVM/MinGW toolchain.
  • Required source and Windows launcher CI checks passed on develop. CI covers both audio IPC bridges, native cheat/progression fixtures, packaging and launcher self-checks; it does not run owned-disc gameplay.
  • Both editions completed portable native builds from the exact sealed RC1 inputs and verified owned-disc data. Live opening-room checks passed for both: rendered room entry, controller movement and clean close. File #1 measured about 29.7 game updates/sec in the tested opening room. Previously verified disc imports were reused; the empty-data ISO import and compiler download were not repeated for RC1. Interrupted candidate builds resumed only after normal input/output and object-receipt checks.

File #2 and the Randomizer remain experimental. These tests do not establish every enemy family, every scenario or seed, full scenario completion, save/resume behavior, or live multiplayer combat. See File #2 implementation and validation.

The loading-screen freeze tracked in issue #27 remains under investigation; RC1's scenario fixes do not establish that it is resolved.

The dependency-source ZIP is for developers and redistributors; players need only the Windows ZIP and their own disc. No game executable, disc data, generated game code or PS2 BIOS is included.
