RE: Outbreak 1.0.20

Stable release. It brings everything tested in the 1.0.20 release candidates since
v1.0.19 — File #2 support, the new launcher, native asset PAKs and
separate audio channels — plus fixes for disc-read freezes and graphics-driver crashes.

The game rebuilds after this update. Keep about 10 GB free for setup. Keep your
ISO, imported data, settings and saves in their existing storage folder.

First setup

  1. Keep your graphics driver current. The game needs OpenGL 3.3; Vulkan is optional.
  2. Extract RE-Outbreak-v1.0.20-Windows-x64.zip and open Outbreak.Launcher.exe.
The launcher includes its .NET runtime.
  3. Select your own supported NTSC-U ISO: File #1 v2.00 (SLUS-20765) or File #2 v1.05
(SLUS-20984). Choose Build game and then Play.

Keep both build-input ZIPs, native helpers and supplied examples beside the launcher.
PAL, Japanese and modified executable revisions are unsupported. Game data and
precompiled game executables are not included.

Upgrading

v1.0.19 and the RC0/RC1 launchers cannot install this release automatically. Close the
launcher and game, extract the complete new Windows ZIP into the existing installation
and replace the application files. Keep data, storage.json and any separately
selected storage folder. RC2 launchers update normally.

New since RC2

  • Fix File #1 freezes of up to half a second while the game reads from the disc image.
Disc reads now complete in the background, as the PS2's CD hardware does, instead of
stopping every game thread until the read finishes.
  • Show a clear error and exit when the graphics driver does not provide OpenGL 3.3,
instead of crashing while opening the game window.
  • Show setup progress over the current launcher page, and resume interrupted compiler
    downloads with retries (#60).
  • Fix joining a host through its advertised public address (#64).
  • Add DualShock 4 controller input over USB and Bluetooth.

Changes since v1.0.19

  • File #2: separate disc import, native build, saves, cheats,
progression unlocks, separate audio channels and the File #2 Randomizer.
  • Launcher: the shared Avalonia/.NET 10 launcher with redesigned settings, disc
selectors, memory-card profiles, mod configuration, an animated graphics preview and
    full release-tag comparison for updates.
  • Mods and assets: native asset PAK exports and replacements, executable-string edits,
timed examine messages, maximum result points and infinite escape time cheats.
  • Audio and display: separate Master, Music, Sound effects, Voice and UI volume,
    per-game audio-output selection, optional spoken subtitles, 16:9, 21:9 and 32:9
display options and a brightness calibration image.
  • Input and paths: D-pad tank controls, DualSense Bluetooth, DualShock 4, portable
storage folders, and builds under long and non-ASCII folder names.

Verification

Windows release checks at commit 9851873:

  • All required CI checks passed: source checks, the Windows launcher, server
compatibility and launcher parity, plus the Windows and Linux launcher builds.
  • Both game build kits were refreshed for this release and compiled into working games
(2,347 File #1 units and 2,463 File #2 units). The builds were resumed after an
interruption; every reused object was checked against its exact inputs.
  • File #1 reached the Outbreak opening room and File #2 reached training room 1. Both
characters moved in response to input and both games exited cleanly. File #1 ran at
60 FPS with 30 game updates per second, with background disc reads active.
  • The packaged launcher passed 1,610 launcher tests, and the extracted ZIP passed
256 interface checks across 12 pages. The package contains no game data or compiled
    game executables.

Limits

Release checks cover opening rooms, not complete scenarios. The Windows package is unsigned. There is no macOS or Linux download in
this release.

The dependency-source archive and SHA-256 checksums are published alongside the
package. Players need only the Windows download, not the dependency sources.
