LatentJam 0.9.3

Crossfades that really overlap, a SMART engine retrained on licence-clean data that can now learn from your own habits,
and your ListenBrainz history imported in one go. Still fully on-device: no account, no catalogue, no network.

New

  • 🎚️ Real crossfade (#23). The end of a track now overlaps the
start of the next, met at their sound rather than their silent edges. Track changes and seeks fade instead of cutting,
for every source on Android: the app, the notification, headphones and Android Auto.
  • 🧠 SMART, rebuilt. The queue engine now runs only on data licensed for this use, and it learns from your own
listening (Learn from my habits): songs you pick after one another, and songs you skip. That only decides between
songs that already fit equally well. Everything stays on the phone; turn it off in Settings β†’ SMART engine.
  • πŸ“₯ Import your ListenBrainz history (Settings β†’ Local backup). Listens are matched to the songs in your library
on the device. They feed Statistics and For You, and SMART when Learn from my habits is on.
  • πŸ”’ Player on the lock screen (Android, optional, Settings β†’ Appearance).
  • ↕️ Sort playlists and Favorites by plays (#28).
  • πŸ—ΊοΈ The Map keeps its regions when your library changes, instead of redrawing from scratch.

Changed

  • Artist variety β†’ Off now really means off: SMART no longer caps how many songs of one artist a queue holds.
  • Never played and Rediscover left the Playlists page; such suggestions live in For You.
  • Recently played lists songs you listened to, not ones skipped at once.
  • The Android download is about 37 MB in every channel.

Fixed

  • Analysis no longer stalls on a file that never decodes; the settings name the track it is waiting on
    (#27).
  • A crossfade into a track of another format or sample rate, or after a seek near the end, no longer cuts or stutters.
  • Restoring a backup of this phone no longer doubles the listening history.
  • The duplicate finder pairs copies that differ only in silence at the ends, and uses matching MusicBrainz
    recording IDs and ISRCs.
  • Many smaller fixes.

⚠️ First start after the update: the library is analysed once again (new audio model). Your history, playlists
and settings stay; SMART queues get better as the analysis finishes.

Install (Android)

Download LatentJam-v0.9.3-arm64.apk (37 MB). It's right for virtually every phone from the last decade, so if unsure,
pick this one. LatentJam-v0.9.3-armv7.apk exists for old 32-bit devices.

Open the file on your phone. It upgrades any earlier release from here in place, and your history, playlists and
settings stay. You'll need to allow installing unknown apps and tap through Play Protect's sideload warning.
Requires Android 7.0+.

Install (iOS)

LatentJam-v0.9.3-unsigned.ipa is an unsigned build. Sideload it with AltStore, Sideloadly or similar, which
re-sign it with your Apple ID. AltStore and SideStore users can also add the LatentJam source from the README to get
updates. Built for iOS 15.1+, arm64.

F-Droid

LatentJam is on F-Droid. F-Droid builds this
version from source on its own schedule.

That build is signed with F-Droid's key, not the one used here, so the two can't upgrade each other. To switch:

  1. Export your data (Settings β†’ Local backup).
  2. Uninstall the app.
  3. Install from F-Droid and restore the backup.

Beta, pre-1.0. Screens and settings can still change between releases. Tag editing writes to your real files,
so back up the music you care about before a big edit. Found a bug?
