A fixes release for 0.9.0: the equalizer and bass boost no longer depend on the phone's own audio effects, skipped songs stop counting as plays, playlists from Windows tools import in full, and the Map no longer crashes under a screen reader. Still fully on-device: no account, no catalogue, no network. Nothing about your listening leaves the phone.
Fixed
- ποΈ Equalizer and bass boost that don't depend on the phone (#16). Android no longer relies on the phone's own audio effects, which some devices silently ignore. LatentJam now shapes the sound itself, with the same filters on Android and iOS: ten bands, five presets and a separate bass shelf, all applied live. Picking a preset also turns the equalizer on. A short lookahead limiter catches loud peaks without lowering the whole track. Your existing curve carries over where the phone exposed it.
- βοΈ Skips are not plays (#20). A song started and skipped within 30 seconds no longer counts as a play. This affects Most played, a song's play count, "played N times" in For You, and the statistics' totals, charts and top lists. A playlist you often start and skip through no longer puts its first song on top. Skips still count as listening time and towards the skip rate, and SMART still learns from them. Your existing history is recounted the same way.
- π₯ Playlists that are not UTF-8. An M3U written by a Windows tool in the ANSI code page or in UTF-16 now finds its songs with accented names, instead of silently missing them. Escapes like
%E9match too. An imported playlist without a#PLAYLIST:title takes the file's name. - πΌοΈ Covers the system can't read. On Android, a song whose cover the system can't provide now shows the picture embedded in the file, then the album's cover.
- πΊοΈ Map with TalkBack. The Map no longer crashes the app when TalkBack or another accessibility service reads it on a library with many regions.
- π Moved files keep their place. On Android, playlists, favourites and listening history follow a song to a new folder or name. This needs a unique MusicBrainz release-track ID in its tags that the app had already read before the move (#17, partly). Move files rather than copying them and deleting the originals later. Ambiguous files are never merged, and links lost before this version are not restored.
- An open Favorites page sorted by title, artist, album or duration no longer rebuilds itself after every play.
- Cancelling a cover-colour read on Android no longer crashes the app.
New
- ποΈ A clearer equalizer screen. The equalizer screen now shows the actual frequency response of your settings, with labelled bands and grouped presets. A live indicator shows when the limiter is reducing peaks. Volume normalization reports whether it has measured the track, how much it turned it down, or that it found nothing to reduce. It still only turns loud tracks down, never quiet ones up.
- π Open from a file manager. Android can open a local audio file with LatentJam and play it from your library.
- β€οΈ Favorite from the notification. An optional setting puts Favorite in Android's media notification in place of Repeat.
Install (Android)
Download LatentJam-v0.9.1-arm64.apk (36 MB). It's right for virtually every phone from the last decade, so if unsure, pick this one. LatentJam-v0.9.1-armv7.apk exists for old 32-bit devices.
Open the file on your phone. It upgrades any earlier release from here in place, and your history, playlists, settings and analysed library stay. You'll need to allow installing unknown apps and tap through Play Protect's sideload warning. Requires Android 7.0+.
Install (iOS)
LatentJam-v0.9.1-unsigned.ipa is an unsigned build. Sideload it with AltStore, Sideloadly or similar, which re-sign it with your Apple ID. Built for iOS 15.1+, arm64.
F-Droid
LatentJam is on F-Droid. F-Droid builds this version from source on its own schedule, with the standard ONNX Runtime, so that download is larger.
That build is signed with F-Droid's key, not the one used here, so the two can't upgrade each other. To switch:
- Export your data (Settings β Local backup).
- Uninstall the app.
- Install from F-Droid and restore the backup.
Beta, pre-1.0. Screens and settings can still change between releases. Tag editing writes to your real files, so back up the music you care about before a big edit. Found a bug? Open an issue.
