F1 Sensor 5.6 brings automatic F1TV access renewal, more flexible dashboard setup and reliability improvements to keep your race weekend running smoothly.
Automatic F1TV access renewal
Keeping live timing connected now takes less effort. F1 Sensor automatically renews your F1TV live timing token in the background, reducing the need to reconnect through Token Helper from every few days to roughly once a month.
A special thank you to @matthewcky2k for investigating, testing and contributing this feature in #697. This is a valuable improvement that makes everyday use of F1 Sensor much more convenient.
Dashboard cards, when you need them
Only using F1 Sensor for entities and automations? You can now disable automatic registration of the bundled dashboard cards in the integration settings. Existing installations keep cards enabled by default, and changing this setting does not affect your sensors or automations.
This release also improves startup reliability, restores missed Race Control messages after reconnecting and makes F1TV access renewal more resilient to temporary connection problems.

A new, modular F1 card is taking shape. Combine live timing, race weekend information and your favourite driver’s data in your own layout, all through Home Assistant’s visual editor, without writing YAML. Start with a template or build from scratch, choosing the modules and details that matter to you.
The new card is still in development, with beta testing coming soon. Want to help shape it? I’m looking for testers to try different setups, use it during race weekends and share honest feedback.

Let users disable bundled dashboard cards
The F1 Sensor integration can now skip registering its bundled dashboard cards for users who only use entities and automations. Existing installations keep the cards enabled by default, and the setting can be changed later without affecting sensor functionality. Fixes #705. -

Improve F1 Sensor integration startup with slow API responses
The F1 Sensor integration now allows Jolpica requests to use their full 30-second timeout, preventing premature startup failures when responses are slow. Failed startup attempts no longer produce misleading errors about entities that were never loaded. Temporary connection failures still trigger automatic retries. -
Restore missing Race Control card messages after reconnecting
The live data card now retrieves missed Race Control messages when reconnecting or returning to the dashboard. Failed history requests are retried automatically, and delayed responses no longer restore messages after the log has been cleared. Existing configurations continue to work without changes. -
Keep automatic F1TV access renewal reliable
F1TV access retries temporary connection failures and keeps token health visible while waiting. Renewal respects changed credentials and integration reloads, and asks for a new sign-in only when the saved session can no longer renew access. -
Keep integration settings compatible with supported Home Assistant versions
F1 Sensor settings now open and save correctly on Home Assistant 2024.11 and newer. Saving options continues to reload the integration so dashboard card preferences and other settings take effect immediately. Existing setups require no changes.

Preserve Race Control event delivery for existing installations with live data enabled, keeping automations working independently of sensor selection. Existing sensor settings are retained, with no configuration changes required.
