Prelude v3.3.4 (build 56)

latest release: v3.3.5

A follow-up to v3.3.3, published right after it. If you already installed v3.3.3 by hand, this one updates itself — press update inside Prelude and it will replace itself correctly. That is the fix v3.3.3 shipped, doing its job.

Coming from an older version? Then install this one by hand instead — see v3.3.3 for why.

What this fixes

v3.3.3 added a first-launch prompt offering to back up your existing DNS files, so that Nintendo mode could restore them instead of deleting them.

The guard that stops Prelude from backing up its own files only ran when the copy was made, and it recognised our files by their current server IP alone. A hosts file written by a very old Prelude — different IP, header not checked back then — slipped through. It would be copied, then restored on every switch to Nintendo mode, pointing your console at a server that no longer exists.

Worse, there was no way out: the prompt only appears once, and the answer was already saved.

Two locks now. Prelude recognises its own files by the header it writes into every one of them, whatever IP they carried. And the backup is checked again before it is restored, not only before it is created — which repairs installations where the bad copy already exists, without asking you anything. An invalid backup is simply never restored.

Nothing else changes from v3.3.3.
