Prelude v4.0.12 — Mode-switch recovery (test release)

latest release: v4.0.13
pre-release4 hours ago

Superseded for Nintendo DNS blocking: use the 4.0.13 public test release.

DNS policy notice: 4.0.12 Nintendo mode restores normal DNS and does not provide a full Nintendo-domain block. Do not interpret PRODINFO blanking as DNS blocking. A 4.0.13 candidate is being prepared to keep Nintendo DNS blocked when leaving Nextendo, following the clarified requirement. This release remains preliminary.

Prelude 4.0.12 — mode-switch recovery (public test release)

Fixed

  • Nintendo -> Nextendo could report cannot write to SD card when a .prelude-backup remained after the main hosts file was removed. Reapplication now preserves that recovery copy and recreates the target.
  • Apply/refresh only the current NAND's hosts, respecting an existing emuMMC-ID-specific file. Shared default.txt and the other NAND hosts remain unchanged.
  • Nintendo mode uses an explicit normal-DNS file or the validated original user backup, preventing fallback to a legacy Nextendo default.
  • Require resource/account-link cleanup to succeed before enabling Nintendo routing; add concrete SD error diagnostics.
  • Applying from sysMMC no longer changes emuMMC's PRODINFO setting.

Verified

Automated configuration failure, mode-isolation, HTTP/downloader and updater tests passed, plus the full Switch CI build. Nintendo -> reboot -> Nextendo -> reboot passed on one physical Switch in emuMMC. DBI readback confirmed the other NAND hosts, shared default and normal NRO remained unchanged. Embedded resources are unchanged from 4.0.11.

Firmware 23.0.1 / Atmosphere

On firmware 23.x, use Atmosphere 1.12.1 rather than 1.12.0. The official notes document that 1.12.0 missed the new DNS commands introduced in firmware 23.0.0, silently bypassing hosts redirection. 1.12.1 fixes that, filesystem BatchRead support and browser crashes. Updating Prelude alone cannot fix the underlying Atmosphere resolver.

Official Atmosphere 1.12.1 notes.

Existing 23.0.1 SSL/BCAT patches are retained. This does not certify every game, account linking on 23.0.1, stock boot or switching from sysMMC. The known-crashing Account Link fallback remains blocked on firmware 23 and newer. The separate Horizon 2306-0807 (5006) report still requires the affected user's trace.

A working 22.5.0 / Atmosphere 1.11.2 console does not need a firmware update for this release. Prelude does not install firmware, Atmosphere or bootloader updates.

Installation

This is a prerelease for manual testing. The stable automatic updater remains on 4.0.11. Preserve your NRO and copies of atmosphere/hosts, atmosphere/config/system_settings.ini and exosphere.ini. Download nextendo.nro, install separately or replace the exact NRO your launcher uses, and confirm 4.0.12.

After a failure, preserve sd:/prelude_trace.txt and sd:/prelude_trace.previous.txt with the exact firmware, Atmosphere revision, game and error. Avoid repeated mode changes after a failure.

Files already overwritten by earlier versions in the other NAND/shared default are preserved, not automatically repaired. Nintendo mode inside CFW is not stock firmware. No ban-free guarantee is provided.
