What's new in 0.1.33
- Vulkan colours fixed. On Vulkan the world was too dark with black patches, or blown out to white. The cause was a texture brightness value read from the wrong place; Vulkan now renders like Direct3D 12. It can still look slightly darker than Direct3D 12 in places, and that's being looked at.
- Vulkan stutters less on repeat runs. Compiled shaders are now kept in a cache on disk, so the second run doesn't recompile everything. The first run after updating still builds the cache.
- "Compiling shaders" notice on Vulkan, the same one Direct3D 12 shows at the bottom of the screen.
- New option: F4 → Mods and fixes → Less stutters (unstable, Direct3D 12 only). It removes most of the stutter, but it breaks the Endless Sea of Possibilities level and can glitch some views in Springfield and other worlds. Off by default. Needs a restart.
- Settings changed in F4 are saved when you close F4. On Steam Deck the game is rarely closed normally, so changes used to be lost.
- The installer retries when the drive with the game files drops out (seen on Linux/Lutris as "Not ready"), and tells you to copy the files to a local drive if it keeps happening.
- The Graphics API option is now just Vulkan, without "(unstable)".
Tip
On an AMD card with a black world or glitched levels on Direct3D 12? Try F4 → Graphics → Graphics API → Vulkan and restart the game. Let me know if it helps.
Warning
AMD graphics cards and low-end PCs are a known problem right now. Expect low frame rates and stutter on weaker machines, and AMD-specific glitches. I'm doing my best to get both playable, but there's no ETA yet. Reports with a game.log help a lot.
