Hello, the major update this time is a bit on the smaller side, but the next one I will be attempting to add support for in-app mod browsing sooo will be fun 😄
Before you read the patch notes, I'd just like to take a moment of your time to ask anyone, if you have the time, please, don't hesitate to join our discord and help with the testing.
It would mean a LOT to me.
Right now when I make releases, you may (or may not) have noticed that I often have to release hotfixes soon after because I have limited time and I can't test every scenario. The other dev that used to help on the team is on leave from the project temporarily to recuperate, and I only have one or two people active on the discord who help (shout out to @Crasben)
So if you have some time, and want to help, then please don't hesitate to join the discord and come test out some dev versions of NOMM 😊
You also get to vote on upcoming features so there's that 😉
Okay on to the features 🚀
Features
Side-by-Side Installations
- You can now install a mod with the same name multiple times
- This allows users to install and manage separately a mod and its optional archives or mod variants
- Any subsequent mod installation of the same name will be installed in a new folder that has the mod's name +
(alternate #)where # is an iterator that increments for each installation. - You may run into issues if you attempt to install the exact same mod twice (this is not a standard flow).
Upgrades, Downgrades... Upgrades?
- When you download a new version of a mod, you can now directly upgrade to that mod with a single button.
- In those cases, the traditional "Install" button will automatically turn into an
Upgrade,Downgrade, orUpgrade?button. - Clicking it will remove the previous version of the mod (remove the links in the game files AND the files from NOMM's staging folder), and then install the new version. All the user will have to do is activate the new version of the mod on the mods tab.
- This can also be done in reverse: if the new version of a mod doesn't work out for you, NOMM offers you to dynamically
Downgradeto a previous version of that mod that you still have downloaded. - Keep in mind NOMM expects version numbers to be actually standardised to be able to tell if it's an upgrade or a downgrade - if the version number is not in a standard format, the button will read "Upgrade?" (to symbolise that it's likely an upgrade but it can't tell)
No Mods? No Problem!
- NOMM now comes with a helpful "welcome box" when you boot up a game profile and you have no mods in either the mods tab or downloads tab.
- The mods tab will direct you to check out the wiki page (if there is one), the utilities tab (if there are any), and the downloads tab to check out how to get some mods in there
- The downloads tab will explain that you can open the folder to deposit mods, drag and drop them there, and propose a link to the nexus page of that game if a nexus ID is associated with the profile
Minor QoL
- Added two new buttons on the utilities tab that open the utility staging and downloads folders (this is mainly going to be used for testers and people who want to build configurations - which could be you!).
- Version checks are now done against Flathub instead of Github, and are now done at app startup instead of when you open the settings window. This means that:
- Opening the settings window is now faster
- There is now virtually no risk of ever going over the Github unauthenticated API limits
