GoldenEye VR v0.5.12
XBLA / Bean frame rate. Indoor stages, Frigate and Jungle now hold 120 fps in
the headset where they dropped frames, and guards cut apart by dismemberment
no longer cost 20-30 fps while they lie in view.
Performance
- Rooms behind walls (every stage with Bean): Bean drew whole rooms
behind the walls, with their guards and props, wherever a room's Bean
geometry might reach into view. Only a room whose Bean geometry really
reaches past its own walls (Dam-like stages) is drawn that way now. A room
drawn for that reason draws only that geometry. Facility's route went from
2,334 dropped frames to 8. Silo, Caverns, Archives, Control, Bunker 2,
Aztec, Dam and Train now hold 120 at their start views (PR #212). - Decals: only bullet impacts and hand-held guns take the stencil band now.
On the Quest's GPU the band switched off early depth rejection for the rest
of the frame whenever a Bean prop with a decal was drawn. Frigate went from
105-117 fps to 118-120 (PR #212). - Jungle: every Bean prop (about 100 palms and plants) is now kept on the
GPU in both VR and the flat screen. Kept meshes draw with a lighter vertex
shader, without the skin, lighting and wound code that only bodies use, and
a Bean triangle's per-vertex work is done once per triangle. Jungle's start
view went from 100 to 120 fps in VR, and the first drone gun with guards
firing from 102 to 120 (PR #212, PR #213). - Dismembered guards: a guard with a limb shot off was posed on the CPU
every frame and cost 20-30 fps in VR while it lay in view. Its cut skin is
now built once and drawn on the GPU like a whole body, moving or settled
(PR #213).
Fixes
- Bean model names: five Bean models (Silo's ICBM and its nose, two
consoles, the silver PP7) are looked up in the release's own spelling. The
headset already loaded them, since its storage ignores case (PR #214).
Testing and known issues
- Played on Quest 3 (cable, 120 Hz): Jungle in VR and on the flat screen at
the start, the drone gun and among the guards; about ten guards down with
several cut apart, with the pieces moving and settled; Facility, Dam,
Frigate and Silo with Bean. - Cut-apart Bean guards still show no bullet wounds, as before.
- A player reported a mission not being saved after a campaign was switched
from HD to Bean (#215,
not reproduced yet). Launcher cheats other than DK mode, Paintball and Line
mode stop missions from being saved, as in the original game. - Everything listed under v0.5.7's known issues still applies.
