GoldenEye VR v0.4.6: VR settings on the watch, grip gestures, per-gun recoil, Statue and Cradle online
Bring your own game. This APK contains no GoldenEye game data. You need a ROM of the USA cartridge you own. Installing over an earlier release keeps your ROM and settings.
VR settings on the watch
- In a mission, the last row of the watch's Game Options page (below Ratio) opens a VR settings page: turning, turn speed, vignette, watch face, aim steadying, motion throw, the grip gestures, hand reload and per-gun recoil. Changes are saved like the launcher's.
- Smooth-turn speed: a slider on the launcher's Comfort tab, 45 to 240 degrees per second (120 as before).
- The watch pause screen now shows on the virtual screen at its place in the room, instead of following your head.
Grip gestures (from the upstream GEVR PC port)
Each has its own switch under Controls > Gestures.... Anywhere else the grip aims as before.
- Hip holster (work in progress): squeeze at your own hip to holster what that hand holds, and again to draw it.
- Grip use: reach a door, switch or console and squeeze to use it, as B would.
- Grip to hand (work in progress, off by default): reach a gun on the floor and squeeze to put it in that hand.
- Mine re-grab: take back your own stuck remote mine, or a proximity mine that is still arming.
- Watch gesture to pause moved to this page.
Guns
- Per-gun recoil (off by default): Perfect Dark VR's recoil profiles on GoldenEye's guns. The DD44 kicks at half the Cougar's strength, and silenced guns kick less than their plain versions. Holding a gun with both hands leaves almost no kick and tightens the bullet spread (not shotguns).
- Hand reload (work in progress, off by default): pull an SMG's or rifle's magazine down with your off hand, or sweep a pistol, shotgun or dual-wielded gun across your chest. Guns stop reloading themselves while it is on.
- Detailed guns in other hands: guards and other players hold the first-person gun models, and launchers carry their rocket.
DetailedGuns=0in goldeneye-vr.ini turns them off. A stage's HD gun textures are decoded at load, so the first switch to a gun shows them.
Game rules and cheats
- Play > Game rules... (both off by default): mines stick to guards, and bodies stay (12, 24 or 48).
- Launcher Cheats: 2x or 10x Health, 2x Armor, Max ammo, Extra weapons.
- When hit (Comfort tab, stereo): no knockback (on by default), keep firing when hit, and a switch for the red flash.
Multiplayer
- Statue and Cradle are in the online stage list, from the cartridge's multiplayer setups.
- Other players' bodies keep their feet on the floor at ledges and on stairs (Perfect Dark's floor finder under the whole body).
- The level music returns after your death sting even when someone else is dead too.
Fixes
- Decals no longer draw through nearer geometry: the shadows under the Dam's start bridge showed on its beams. Decal walls over doorways stay whole (#72, #84), and Frigate's "06" and port windows still draw.
- Melee on the Dam and Surface now reaches as far as on the other stages.
- ROMs that are not the USA cartridge are refused in every byte order, and the launcher stops on one (#108).
Network protocol is now 18: a match can be on Statue or Cradle, which v0.4.5 rejects, so every player needs v0.4.6.
Install and testing
- Use Update in the headset launcher when v0.4.6 appears, or install
GoldenEye-VR-v0.4.6.apkover your current version with SideQuest. It uses the existing release signing key. See the install guide. - The port's native and Python suites (multiplayer, launcher UI, pause UI, surfaces, VR display, watch grip) pass. Checked on one Quest 3: the watch VR page, grip use and the holster, mines on guards, the magazine reload, per-gun recoil one- and two-handed, the Dam bridge and Frigate's decals, melee on the Dam, the detailed guns, and Cradle hosted alone.
- Not yet checked on two headsets: Statue and Cradle matches, other players at ledges, other players' guns, and the game rules in co-op. Grip to hand, hand reload and the hip holster are works in progress.
