Media Player Classic PS5 1.5.1

A fix for 1.5, which didn't open on the console (#3; thanks to Sulfurico-One64 for the report).

Fixed

  • 1.5 closed at launch with "signal: 12 (SIGSYS)".
    • Cause: to find the folder ShadowMount+ runs the app from, 1.5 used two system functions (statfs, getfsstat) that only the system's own processes may use. Their library (libkernel_sys) stopped the app as it started.
    • Fix: the app now uses exactly the same system functions as 1.4. The helper payload, which may use those functions, finds the folder for it.
    • With an older helper, or none: the app reads ShadowMount+'s link to the folder instead. It only writes there if that folder is really this app's.
    • Prevention: the build now fails if the app ever imports a function outside that set again.
  • Everything else is as in 1.5: the new Keys actions, the touchpad pointer, movable windows, and updates into the folder ShadowMount+ runs.

Installing

  • On 1.4: Help > Check for updates offers 1.5.1. That update is still installed by 1.4's updater, which writes /data/homebrew/PPSA99015. If ShadowMount+ runs your copy from another folder, send the 1.5.1 payload once instead.
  • On 1.5 (the app doesn't open): send MediaPlayerClassicPS5-v1.5.1.elf to your payload loader (port 9021). It writes over 1.5 in the folder ShadowMount+ runs. Then close the app if it is open and start it again from the home screen.
  • To go back to an older version: a payload never writes over a newer version, so move or delete the app's folder first, then send the older payload. The README's "If the app doesn't open" section has the steps, including the ShadowMount+ steps Sulfurico-One64 found.

Files

  • MediaPlayerClassicPS5-v1.5.1.elf: send it to your payload loader (port 9021). It installs the app, then stays as the helper that unlocks it.
  • MediaPlayerClassicPS5-v1.5.1-PPSA99015.zip: the app folder, used by Help > Check for updates. You don't need to download it yourself.
  • mpc-ps5-v1.5.1-src.zip: the source.

Status

Its imports are now identical to 1.4's, which opens on the console, and it passes 470 host tests. It opens on a PS5 (tested by the author before release). If it doesn't on yours, please tell us in #3, with Options > Miscellaneous > Debug logs on (the log is /data/mpcps5/logs/boot.log).
