Breaking change. The repository history was rewritten on 2026-10-21. Every commit and tag has a new SHA, and ~480 files moved. Existing clones and forks can no longer

Every removed image was an exact duplicate of one that remains in the collection.
Why this release exists
The trigger was repository size: 9.55 GB of Git history for 10.23 GiB of files, and 99.6% of the objects in that history were simply the current files.
That has three consequences worth knowing:
git clone --depth 1did not help. A shallow clone only drops dead history, and the whole repository contained exactly 11 unreachable blobs.- Every clone, fork, backup and CI checkout paid the full 9.5 GB.
- Deleting files at the tip would not have shrunk anything, because old commits still referenced their blobs. Only a history rewrite could actually drop them.

Net: 3.6 GB from WebP, 1.1 GB from the duplicate tree, ~0.2 GB from pruning.
Breaking changes
- History rewritten. All 131 pre-existing commits and all 6 old tags have new SHAs. Messages, authors and dates are preserved; object IDs are not. Maintenance commits were added on top.
- Files moved. 483 files were relocated into device lanes. Old
raw.githubusercontent.comlinks now 404. - PNG → WebP. Every
.pngpath is now.webpin the same folder. Scripts that glob*.pngwill silently match nothing. - Duplicate tree removed.
Year of 2021/no longer exists — use2021 Wallpaper/.

Across a random 30-image sample: median 38.3 dB, minimum 32.1 dB. Indistinguishable at normal viewing distance; hard edges can look slightly soft at 1:1.
This is a lossy, one-way conversion — the original PNG masters are no longer in the repository. If you need them, recover them from an old clone before syncing.

Wallpaper Engine and older wallpaper tools generally accept static WebP, but verify before relying on it for dynamic sets.
Known issues
- 5.68 GB is still above GitHub's 5 GB comfort line. Going lower would mean re-encoding JPEGs (second-generation loss) or splitting the archive — neither is planned.
- 53 exact-duplicate groups (107 MiB) remain on purpose. These are copies inside curated sets (for example the Windows 11 theme folders referenced by
Desktop.ini), not accidents. - ~70 legacy images below 1280 px remain in
2018-2020 Wallpaper; a future cleanup candidate. - GitHub may keep reporting ~9 GB after the push until it garbage-collects the old objects. Fresh clones are already 5.7 GB.
- Old releases (v1.0.0–v4.1.0) now point at rewritten tags, so their ZIP/tarball contains WebP instead of PNG.
- One ultrawide filename collision was suffixed:
1201491 (2).jpg. v1.0.0was retired. It pointed at pre-2025 history that is not part of the current tree; keeping it alive would have kept 3.7 GB of superseded objects reachable.v2.0.0-v5.0.0are preserved.

删掉的图片全部是"另一处仍有同一张"的重复，没有丢失独有内容。
为什么
历史里的 99.6% 对象就是当前文件，所以：
--depth 1无效——全库只有 11 个不可达对象；git gc无效——没有垃圾可回收；- 删文件也无效——旧 commit 仍引用着 blob。
只有重写历史，才能把那 3.6 GB 的 PNG 从 .git 里真正拿掉。 另外 1.1 GB 来自 Year of 2021/——它与 2021 Wallpaper/ 逐字节相同。

画质

已知问题
- 5.68 GB 仍高于 GitHub 5 GB 建议线；要再降只能重编码 JPEG 或拆分仓库，目前都不做。
- 53 组精确重复（107 MiB）是有意保留的——套装内的副本（如
Desktop.ini引用的 Windows 11 主题），不是漏删。 2018-2020 Wallpaper里还有约 70 张 1280px 以下的旧图，留待后续清理。- 推送后 GitHub 网页体积可能仍显示约 9 GB，直到它回收旧对象；新 clone 已经是 5.7 GB。
- 旧版本（v1.0.0–v4.1.0）的 tag 已重写，其 ZIP 中是 WebP 而非 PNG。
- 一个超宽文件重名冲突，已加后缀：
1201491 (2).jpg。 v1.0.0已退役：它指向 2025 年 History cleared 之前的旁支，保留它会让 3.7 GB 旧对象一直可达；v2.0.0–v5.0.0保留。
