GR Mod 0.8.7
Mac
English
New
- The cameras' current official firmware. Every GR Mod feature works on GR IV / GR IV HDF 1.20, GR III / GR III HDF 2.20 and GR IIIx / GR IIIx HDF 1.70, and still on 1.11 / 2.10 / 1.60. The GR IV Monochrome's official 1.10 is the same file as GR IV 1.20 and works as well.
- "Download firmware" lists both the new and the earlier official release of the model (marked New / Earlier); the one you pick is downloaded.
Changed
- Before a firmware made from the newer release is written, a yellow note says: once a firmware of a higher version is installed, the camera cannot go back to the older one.
- The tour's firmware steps now say that both versions can be used.
- The bridge firmware is gone: a camera whose firmware update failed can simply take the new official release instead of the 1.12 bridge firmware first.
- One update line: from 0.8.7 on, every later release (0.9 and later too) can be installed from within GR Mod.
- Why: up to 0.8.6, version 0.9 and later was kept for a program that would support only the cameras' new firmware. A camera cannot go back once updated, so a 1.11 user whose program updated itself to such a release could no longer build firmware for the camera. One program now supports both firmware versions, so the lines need not be kept apart.
- That is also why this release is 0.8.7 and not 0.9.0: copies up to 0.8.6 install only versions below 0.9 by themselves; as 0.8.7 every 0.8.x copy updates online.
Fixed
- GR IV 1.20: with soft focus on, halation did nothing. Halation now goes by the look and level the picture was taken with (the same word the date imprint reads), so it works with soft focus too (checked on the camera, test firmware 065).
Notes
- A camera updated to the newer firmware cannot go back. After installing a firmware based on 1.20 / 2.20 / 1.70, the camera no longer accepts 1.11 / 2.10 / 1.60 files, official or GR Mod.
- GR IV 1.20 adds two looks of its own, so the added slots are numbered differently on 1.20. If the camera had a GR Mod firmware for 1.11 with an added slot selected, choose the look again after the update (the added slots' own parameters start from their defaults).
- With GR IV 1.20's "Restore User Mode Settings" set to restore at power off, GR Mod's soft focus, date imprint and Direct Flash settings are restored with U1–U3 as well; that is how the camera works.
- Ricoh offers GR III 2.20 / GR IIIx 1.70 for a limited time only, until 2026-12-31 (Japan time). After that GR Mod lists only the earlier 2.10 / 1.60; if you want the new release, download it before then and keep a copy of the official file yourself.
- 0.8.x copies update to 0.8.7 online; your work and the official firmware already downloaded are kept.
