Crash Bandicoot Launcher 1.8.1
A small follow-up to 1.8, mostly focused on cleaning up some of the stranger problems caused by unlocked frame rates.
Frame Pacing Fixes
The big one is Lost City.
Several objects in the level weren't really behaving correctly with delta time, including moving platforms, walls and enemies.
This caused things like:
- Moving platforms teleporting after pausing and unpausing
- Weird collision behavior while standing on moving platforms
- Some moving walls looking stuttery at higher frame rates
- Enemies moving or animating at the wrong speed
- Additional Lost City-specific timing issues
These systems now have their own proper frame pacing handling instead of assuming the original 30 FPS behavior.
There was also a fairly large internal cleanup of the frame pacing code while working on these fixes. Nothing exciting from a player's perspective, but it should make fixing whatever other weird 1996 frame-dependent logic we discover next considerably less painful.
Integer Scaling
Integer Scaling has also been fixed.
It now keeps the correct displayed aspect ratio and no longer unnecessarily shrinks the image or introduces extra black bars in cases where a clean integer fit isn't possible.
Thanks
Thanks to @arciks1192-svg for the very useful #22 report and for finding several of the Lost City problems.
