MeshCore Solo Companion Firmware v2.0-rc2

The second release candidate for 2.0. Settings carry over from rc1; coming from 1.x, read the v2.0-rc1 notes first.

Note

Wio Tracker L2: install this release by hand. Settings › Firmware update only offers final releases, never a release candidate.

What's new

  • A third Wio Tracker L1 E-ink build, for a 4.2" 400 × 300 panel (WioTrackerL1Eink42), with a 9 × 15 font, its own icons, and screens laid out for the room: tiles on the status page, a node list with a detail pane, charts, the sky view and the clock tools.
  • Alerts drop in from the top on the OLED and E-ink builds, as a banner that slides down and away, instead of a box over the middle of the screen. A new-message alert lasts two seconds; on E-ink it simply appears and goes.
  • A bolt beside the battery when USB power is connected. Where the board can sense it (the nRF52 boards, the Wio Tracker L2); the screen redraws as the cable goes in or out.
  • Message alert in Settings › Display (OLED and E-ink): Normal is the banner, Compact an envelope with the number of new messages beside the battery, blinking for a moment, Off no alert at all.
  • The bytes a message has left, on every screen, counted as it will go out: a channel post less your name, placeholders as they will be filled in, an accented or Cyrillic letter as two. It shows over the last 40 bytes, and nothing past the limit can be typed or sent.
  • The splash grows with the screen, and the start-up "Loading..." is three dots in the middle of the screen, so it needs no orientation.
  • Wio Tracker L2:
    • GPS on three tabs: Sky, Signal (a bar per satellite, with a dB-Hz scale) and Details.
    • Charts with a value axis, a grid and a readout under your finger; the big clock in the splash's lettering.
    • The USB-drive offer waits until the screen is unlocked, with a PIN or without.
    • A pull-down quick panel from the status bar, and a faster screen fade.
  • A channel's scope can follow the default. "Default" is the new start value for a channel, and follows whichever scope the list marks as default; * still sends unscoped.
  • Home panels list the way in first: "All settings", "All messages" and "All tools" head their panels, the shortcuts after.
  • On / Off are written the same way on every screen, and the GPS switch no longer looks like a battery.

Fixes

  • Settings were lost on restart on a device that had run Meshtastic. It leaves a /prefs folder behind, which our settings file could neither be read from nor saved over, so no change survived. The folder is now removed on start.
  • Bluetooth switched off stays off over a reboot or hibernation.
  • A tool opened from the Tools page goes back to Home on Back, not to the full tools list.
  • A change made in Settings is saved on the way to a screen opened from it.
  • L2 GPS signal chart spans its box from the first bar.
  • L2: a direct message waiting for delivery shows a dot per send, as on the L1, so each automatic resend adds one; it used to stay at "..." until it failed.
  • L2: the radio LED lights only while transmitting; it was lit all the time and went dark on transmit.
  • L2: the Nodes list and the scan results update when a node starts or stops sharing its location live, or when its name or signal report arrives later.
