github Manic-EMU/ManicEMU v2.0.0

Note

Starting from version 2.0.0, we no longer provide builds of TrollStore JIT. You can package it yourself by following the guide.

This is a major release focused on a redesigned interface, expanded platform support, and advanced features. Landscape browsing, library management, and external controller navigation have been rebuilt. It also adds several new systems and brings Netplay to eligible Libretro cores.

Before You Update

  • Dreamcast (Flycast): Existing save states will no longer work as of 2.0.0. Convert important save states to in-game saves before updating, or back up the Flycast/dc folder yourself.
  • Wii: A BootMii-format keys.bin is required.
  • Symbian: Install firmware in Settings first (.ROM; S60v2 and later also need .RPKG).
  • GameCube / Wii: The core is still being optimized, so heat and frame drops should still be expected.
  • MAME: A number of lesser-used arcade systems have been trimmed. Some obscure titles may no longer run.

Interface

Landscape

  • A new landscape library, with most landscape pages redesigned.
  • Built-in dynamic backgrounds. You can use or upload ShaderToy (GLSL) scripts to customize them. Only single-Image scripts are supported; complex scripts may increase battery use or heat.
  • Multiple customizable card carousel styles.
  • Focused background: when a game is selected, its banner can be used as the landscape focus backdrop.
  • background music feature in landscape mode—besides built-in tracks, you can upload your own music files to use as background music.
  • built in 12 sets of navigation and focus sound effects.

Game Options and Shortcuts

  • A unified options list and interaction model throughout the app.
  • Available actions are automatically arranged and regrouped for the current context.
  • Advanced reordering: customize the order and grouping of options.
  • A redesigned in-game shortcut menu. Shortcuts can appear on supported skins and in the in-game menu.

Navigation and Input

  • A global focus and navigation system for iPhone and iPad. You can browse and interact entirely with a controller or keyboard.
  • Hold Command or the controller’s Select button to view the shortcut cheatsheet.
  • A unified navigation bar for more consistent browsing and editing.
  • Many long-press and hidden actions have been replaced with more conventional, iOS-style interactions.
  • Batch management and actions.
  • Adaptive rotation throughout the app.
  • Controllers can be assigned to a player slot. On cores that expect a keyboard, controller inputs can be mapped to keyboard events.

Features

Library and Artwork

  • Covers now support separate icon and banner artwork. Box art is used in regular lists, icons in square layouts, and banners as the landscape focus backdrop.
  • Online artwork from Libretro Thumbnails and SteamGridDB (Grids / Heroes / Logos / Icons; SteamGridDB requires your own API key).
  • Switching platform or category rematches cover art.

Game Data

  • Game metadata: auto-match, search the database, or edit it yourself (developer, publisher, series, genre, release date, region, overview, and more).
  • ESRB ratings and matching icons. Rating icons can be hidden in Settings.
  • A redesigned save-state manager with import and export.
  • Scoped settings: the same option can be stored at game, platform, or global level, and each can be cleared or reset independently.
  • batch scraping for covers, icons, and banners.

Shaders and Skins

  • Real-time shader preview, without loading the shader first.
  • Redesigned default GBA skin.
  • Flex skins now support customizing button size and position.

Achievements, Cheats, and Netplay

  • RetroAchievements pages are easier to read and load faster.
  • MultiSet support: earn subset achievements without a patched ROM. Switching the achievement list only changes what is shown; it does not affect which sets you can unlock while playing.
  • Online cheat database: search, multi-select add, and bookmarks.
  • Netplay for many Libretro cores: host or join a room, public lobby, LAN scan, relay, spectator mode, and room password. Your Adventurer Card nickname is used as the Netplay display name. You can now trade treasured Pokémon with friends over the network, or go head-to-head on arcade systems.
  • Rewind: add it to the shortcut menu, a controller mapping, or TriggerPro, then touch and hold to use it.

Advanced Features and Import

  • Core Settings: intended for advanced users. Incorrect values may prevent games from launching. Settings can be reset per game or per platform.
  • Settings now include an Adventurer Card, with a customizable nickname and avatar.
  • Import games from DukeX.
  • Import games from Armsx2.
  • PS1 now supports importing .bin files directly.
