What's New
pip install soup-cli[extra] now works on Windows cmd.exe.
Soup printed — and the README, docs, templates, and examples all showed —
pip install 'soup-cli[train]'. That is bash / zsh / PowerShell syntax. Windows
cmd.exe has no single-quote quoting, so it hands the quotes to pip verbatim and
pip refuses the requirement:
ERROR: Invalid requirement: "'soup-cli[train]'": Expected package name at the start of dependency specifier
Every install hint, README command, docs example, template comment, and example
config now uses pip install "soup-cli[extra]" — the one spelling valid in all
four shells (cmd, PowerShell, bash, zsh), and the same one the repo already used
for pip install -e ".[dev]". 147 sites across 67 files.
If you followed an older tutorial or video and hit Invalid requirement, just
swap the ' for " — nothing is wrong with the package.
Also in this release:
- Eval-gate
type: benchmarktasks now actually run (thanks
@Sanjays2402).eval/gate.pyprobed for a
helper that never existed, so every benchmark gate task failed 100% of the time
while advising an install that couldn't fix it. It now runs through
ForgettingDetector, the same pathsoup shipalready used. Closes #310.
Install / Upgrade
pip install --upgrade "soup-cli[train]"
Security
No security-relevant changes.
Known Limitations
- The single-quoted spelling still appears intentionally in prose (the README
note and two test fixtures) so a reader who followed an older tutorial recognises
the exact broken string. The regression guard is scoped to code blocks and
package source for that reason. - This is not a code fix by nature — nothing in Soup can rescue
pip install 'soup-cli[x]'once it is typed, because pip and the shell own the
command and Soup is not installed yet. The migration covers the spelling Soup
prints and documents. Making the CLI's own hints shell-detecting (print"..."
on cmd) is possible but deferred, since double quotes already work everywhere. - Older videos and website copy live outside this repo and still show single
quotes; the README note is the mitigation, not a fix for already-published
material.
