v1.4.2 - Say Something, and Be Heard
A repair release. Two systems that shipped in v1.4.0/v1.4.1 were quietly doing nothing at
all for everyone except the developer's own machine, and both are fixed here. Wall cover
comes back on top.
If you sent us a bug report and heard nothing: it never arrived. That one is on us, and it
is fixed.
FIXED: Report a Bug never reached us
The in-game reporter has been failing for every player since it shipped, and it failed
silently enough that it took a player's own report - hand-delivered - to find it.
The updater is supposed to write the reporting address into a small config file the game
reads at launch. It was writing it to the wrong folder: one directory above the one the
game actually loads from. The check for that folder failed, the write was skipped, and
because the whole step sat inside an error handler with nothing to catch, it did not even
leave a line in the log. The game then dutifully loaded a file that had never been created,
found no address, and refused to send.
The desktop "Report a Problem" shortcut was never affected, which is exactly why this hid
for so long: reports still arrived, by hand, and nobody could see the in-game route was dead.
Fixed: correct folder, the folder is now CREATED rather than assumed, and every branch
logs - including the two silent skips and the swallowed error. You do not need to do
anything; your next launch picks it up.
FIXED: the restored voice lines and pain audio were silent
v1.4.0 announced 1,300+ restored retail voice takes and a new tiered pain system. Neither
made a sound for anyone but the developer.
The audio resolved from loose files sitting on the dev machine from the cut-content digs,
and loose files take priority over packaged ones - so every alias worked there and was
silent everywhere else. 1,040 files (47 MB) are now packaged and shipping.
Your character also had six different voices, one of them female, because the pool that
filled the gaps drew across every actor in the game. It is one voice now - yours.
NEW: Wall cover
Take cover against a wall, and the game works out which side of the doorway you can
actually pop out of - by scanning for the real edge, checking it at head height as well as
chest, testing whether your body can physically fit through the gap, and, when both sides
are open, going with the side you are looking at.
Blind fire follows that decision instead of assuming. If neither side is poppable it now
says so and holds your fire straight rather than swinging it into the wall you are leaning
on.
The lean itself ships switched off (coop_coverLean 1 to try it) - see "Still early".
NEW: Surrendered Germans commit to it
A German who throws his hands up stays down until he is killed or recruited. Previously any
one of several systems could quietly re-arm him for a couple of seconds, so he would run,
draw, sometimes throw a grenade, then snap back to surrendering.
He now carries an allied star over his head from the moment he gives up, and walking near
him tells you to hold USE to bring him over to your side.
ALSO IN THIS RELEASE
- 52 soldier skins upscaled to twice their resolution - the Rangers, sniper, medic,
recon, airborne and Soviet sets. Three more were left alone because an HD pack already
overrides them. - The armory tells you how to earn things. 162 uniforms and helmets said "Earn via rank
or challenge"; they now name the exact challenge or rank. The weapon finish strip no
longer overlaps the name text. - Bastogne's shelling respects walls. The church barrage damaged you through solid
stone - it was distance-only, with no line-of-sight test. Shelter now shelters. - The spawn hitch is gone. Your kit was being re-issued on every single spawn even when
nothing was missing. - Officer music returns after the boss fight instead of leaving you in silence.
- Full finger animation on the weapon - both hands now, rather than one trigger finger.
STILL EARLY - please read before reporting
Wall cover is new, and it has a history. An earlier attempt at it crashed and was
switched off; this release fixes the actual cause (the old version physically shoved your
body toward the corner, fighting the game's own movement prediction) rather than hiding it
again. The pop-out lean is therefore shipped OFF by default while the rest is tested:
coop_coverLean 1 enables it if you want to help. Blind fire, side detection and the pose
are all on.
Ragdolls remain the newest system in the mod and the likeliest source of something odd -
a strange pose, a body that spins a moment too long. coop_ragdoll 0 restores the retail
death animations cleanly.
Corpses can still occasionally invert on steep surfaces. Known, diagnosed, not yet
fixed - the fix is designed and deliberately held rather than rushed into a release.
Anti-aliasing is off on purpose. Under the new renderer, MSAA makes distant foliage
render with white outlines. Turning MSAA off is the workaround, not the fix; the real one
is still being designed.
Known issues carried forward: a jeep passenger can fail the first supply run on e3l4;
index-overflow warnings on m3l2; script errors when t2l2 boots; pinned challenges have no
in-mission display yet. One player has also reported being stuck in the truck at the start
of Mission 1 - we have the diagnosis and are testing the fix.
Report anything through the in-game reporter. It genuinely works now.
