Better Usability and other smaller changes

latest releases: v4.3.0-beta.3, v4.3.0-beta.2, v4.3.0-beta.1...
pre-release3 years ago

Installation

  • Tiva Flash utilities and drivers can be found in the repository under Tiva_Flash_Utilities
  • To update the Nextion firmware over USB you need at least firmware v2.0-beta-1 and the Nextion Editor. On the Syntherrupter, go to Settings->USB FW Update. Connect the Syntherrupter to your PC. More infos about updating the Nextion firmware with the Nextion Editor can be found in their documentation, chapter 2.1 and chapter 4
  • If you have Nextion Editor v1.61.1 or higher you need to update your Tiva firmware to v3.1.0-beta.5 or higher before you can update the Nextion firmware.

Notes

  • Since the amount of coils that can be controlled by the Syntherrupter has to be set at compile time I attached Tiva binaries for 1-6 coils.
  • If you flash the Tiva for the first time or increase the coil number always check ALL settings. You should check it after each update, too. Just in case...
  • Nextion firmwares >=3.0.1 or higher are not compatible with any previous Tiva version.
  • Tiva and Nextion firmwares >=3.1.0-beta.2 are not compatible with any previous versions.
  • Tiva and Nextion firmwares >=3.1.0-beta.3 are not compatible with any previous versions.
  • Nextion firmwares >=3.1.0-beta.4 are not compatible with any previous Tiva version.

Changes

  • See Release v3.1.0-beta.1, Release v3.1.0-beta.2, Release v3.1.0-beta.3 and Release v3.1.0-beta.4 for the other important changes since v3.0.2
  • The active ontime, (BPS) and duty settings for each coil are now displayed below its button (MIDI Live Mode, Simple Mode).
  • Increased "navigation speed" with buttons to go to the previous/next coil directly from the MIDI Coil Settings page without returning to the MIDI Live page.
  • Since most pages are now pretty filled, there is not a lot of "free background" left to hit in an emergency. Therefore all "passive" components (f.ex. texts) act like the background and disable all outputs. Basically everything that is not a button or a slider disables the outputs.
  • When pan is enabled, volume normally drops with the distance to the coil ("Linear" mode). This can be disabled. In that case the coil plays all notes within reach at their nominal volume ("Const" mode). This can be used to prevent a note from playing at 50% volume on two coils and play at 100% on one coil or the other coil. I think it looks better if one note is always played by only one coil.
  • Nextion released a new version of their Editor (previous version: 1.60.2, new version: 1.61.1), which adds a confirmation box to the firmware upload feature. This breaks the "end of update" detection in previous releases, making an update almost impossible (you'd have to confirm the dialog in ~0.5 seconds). This version fixes that problem. The fix is backwards compatible, meaning you do not have to upgrade your Nextion Editor if you don't want.
  • Some MIDI devices use "running status" which reduces the amount of data necessary for repetitive commands. This is now supported by the Tiva firmware.
  • Real Time Messages can occur "inside" another MIDI command and should not affect them. This was not handled correctly in previous version, leading to a loss of the interrupted command. Fixed now.
  • Increased output current from 2mA to 12mA. I finally did the research and yes, the full 12mA are possible for each output pin.
  • In Release v3.1.0-beta.4 it was impossible to turn the outputs completely off in MIDI Live mode. The ontime had a lower limit of 1us. This is now fixed.
  • Other minor fixes and improvements.

Live long and prosper
