Patch Notes: Climates & Calories - Boons, your temperature shown, and a full audit
A new Climates & Calories setting: Boons
- Climates & Calories has a fourth setting, Boons, between Off and Casual, and Boons is now the default. If you never picked a setting you play Boons; Off, Hard or Boons, if you chose one, is kept.
- Boons takes nothing away. Keeping your character fed, watered and rested earns bonuses instead:
- Well fed: +5 Strength, +5 Endurance
- Quenched: +5 Agility, +5 Speed
- Well rested: +5 Intelligence, +5 Willpower. Sleeping in a bed or by a fire banks rest, up to 12 hours, and you spend it while awake.
- Thriving (all three at once): +5 Luck
- Hearth: standing by a lit fire gives stamina back.
- Boons show as green tiles on the status strip. Nothing turns red in Boons except a drink's effect.
- On the Status page, the hours of rest you have banked are a line of their own ("Rested for another 12 hours."), so the classic status box no longer grows wider for them.
- Online, the tile that counts down until you can sleep through a night again is called "Next night" (it was "Rested", easily mistaken for Well rested).
Your temperature, shown
- A temperature plate sits at the right end of the compass (Enhanced HUD): your felt temperature, its word, and a scale from deadly cold to scorching. It stays on the screen at every HUD scale and on phones, clear of the FPS counter, the enemy health bar, the arena session button and the travel pace box. It can be moved and hidden on its own, and it still shows when the compass is hidden. "Temperature on the HUD" in the Climates & Calories settings turns it off.
- The Enhanced inventory shows your felt temperature beside your armour rating. An item's card says what wearing it, or taking it off, would do to your temperature. An unidentified item's comparison no longer counts powers you can't see yet.
- The Stats side lists everything that makes up your temperature, and the Status page shows the number.
- Red now means the setting you play on charges you for it, and amber means you feel it but it costs nothing. In Hard every need that costs is red; being wet is amber in every setting. Each level is also said in words, not by colour alone.
Temperature fixes
- Resist Fire no longer makes a blizzard colder, and Resist Frost no longer makes the desert hotter. Underground, resistances now act on the dungeon's own air.
- Swimming on the surface soaks you a little at a time; only going under soaks you at once. A short river swim no longer leaves you drenched for hours.
- Rain and snow soak you at the original mod's rates. A cloak keeps snow off, and a hood keeps rain off.
- Robes and cloaks keep the sun off your armour. Surcoats and straps no longer do, because they are worn under it.
- Underground, clothes, metal armour and food follow the dungeon's air, not the weather above it.
- Warm weather now takes effect on your clothing and a hood's shade gradually. A slightly warmer day no longer reads much colder.
- Indoors, a warmer street no longer reads colder inside.
- Having a drink to hand cools you down to 9 degrees at most, instead of dropping you to 0.
- Cold metal armour chills you a degree less, as in the original mod.
- The temperature number and its word always agree. The breakdown's "Bare skin" row is now called "Heat loss".
- The open sea is no longer as warm as a beach. A winter crossing is cold now.
- Offline, a long rest or a fast-travel journey feels each hour as it passes, including the minute you arrive. Nights are cold, noons warm, and the sun shines only by day.
- A long journey no longer keeps the weather you set out in all the way: the road is felt under a fair sky.
- In a castle, the Stats breakdown names the row "Castle walls" instead of "Underground".
Survival fixes
- Hard: a long fast-travel journey can no longer collapse you from exhaustion over and over on the way, or kill you in the minute you land.
- Collapsing from exhaustion now counts as an hour's sleep on the ground.
- You can no longer save partway through a fast-travel journey ("You cannot save now."); the online checkpoint waits until you arrive.
- Leaving prison, you start fed, watered and rested, not starving, soaked and exhausted.
- A vampire who is cured is no longer instantly starving and exhausted. In beast form, a werewolf neither hungers nor thirsts.
- Stamina no longer stays above its maximum after a boon or a Fortify ends.
- Survival messages no longer repeat when you step in and out of a fire's reach, and loading a game no longer repeats them all.
- Bare feet are hurt by the weather's own heat or cold, before your clothes count, measured against your current Endurance, so Fortify Endurance helps. They are no longer hurt underground.
Camping
- Resting at your own burnt-out Campfire relights it if it has fuel. A worn-out tent no longer claims to stoke its fire.
- Sleeping in your tent keeps the rain and snow off, and armour no longer rusts while you rest or under a roof.
- A cold camp no longer offers Cook.
- Resting at a brazier or fire bowl needs you within the fire's reach. From further away you are told to move closer, instead of getting a rough night's rest.
- A campfire on a ship's deck no longer counts as a fire while the ship is out of sight.
Food and items
- Food that spoils in your pack shows its spoiled name and picture. Putrid food says it cannot be eaten.
- New characters start with the original mod's Formal cloak, hood up, and Shoes, both well worn.
- An empty waterskin from a shop is called "Empty Waterskin".
Taverns
- Tavern menus follow the original mod's regional menus, prices and holiday free drinks.
- A meal you order when you are nearly full is served whole and leaves you fed.
- A soft drink refreshes you (+5 stamina); an alcoholic drink restores stamina and magicka.
- Online, passing out drunk wakes you at the next dawn under the sky everyone shares.
Fights between players
- Your Boons and other buffs count properly in duels, sieges and the Royal Tourney. Before, your own attributes and Luck were counted against you.
