Patch Notes: Smoother frames, shorter freezes
Performance
- Entering the world freezes for less. The game no longer stalls while it works out where every town's pilgrims go for their holy days, or while it picks the day's elite halls in the Wrothgarian zone. The pilgrimages and halls are the same, but the frozen screen is seconds shorter.
- The map opens without the long freeze. Opening the map for the first time in a session took 6.7 s on a desktop and now takes 0.7 s.
- Far-off ships no longer weigh on your frame rate. Ships far out at sea, including the ones other players leave behind when they log off, no longer keep a full animated hull hundreds of kilometres away, and they make decisions less often while nobody can see them. Their voyages, fights and damage carry on as before. With such a fleet in the world, one player's frame rate went from 37 back to 90 FPS.
- Smoother walking in the overworld. Ships, their map lookups and wagon harness ropes do the same work for less effort and less memory garbage: 79 -> 93 FPS walking the coast.
- Horse coats no longer stutter. Meeting a horse with a new coat on the road no longer freezes the game for a moment. Its coat is painted a few pictures at a time instead of all forty at once.
- Parked carts cost less. A parked team's harness stops recomputing its ropes while nothing moves.
- Desktop app: smoother frames. The app no longer reads your account and settings files from disk every frame. It keeps them in memory, as the browser does: about 86 -> 110 FPS in a town.
