Patch Notes: Desktop updates are back
Fixes
- The desktop app finds and installs updates again. No new desktop release had been published since 0.1.8020, so the launcher had nothing to offer. The next release after this merge brings in everything merged since then.
Patch Notes: Plain words
The Notice Board's Seat tab explains itself
- A new What this is panel sits at the top. It says what a seat is in two sentences, plus your next step: join a guild, pledge here, ask an Officer, or earn influence.
- If your guild can pledge here, the Pledge button is right beside that line. Deadlines show how long is left.
- How the seat war works is now at the top. It starts open if your guild isn't in this region's war yet.
- Words on this board explains every term the tab uses: Charter, influence, Muster, Reckoning, Turning, Right of Siege, Defence, Standing, Tithe, Edict, Tribute, Sellsword, the Works, Fealty and Pacts, Seasons and Tides.
- You see the explanation even when the standings are still loading or closed to you.
The Chapters explain themselves
- How chapters work sits above the chapter cards on the Work tab. It covers what a chapter is and how you belong to one, Merit, Strength, the bands, the Master's and council chairs, Seasons and patrons. Every number comes from the game's own rules.
- It starts open until you have earned your first Merit.
Project Legacy: How it works
- The Family tab has a fourth page, How it works. It covers:
- death under your house's rules and the toll you chose;
- who carries the line on, and what they inherit;
- heirlooms and remains;
- marriage and children;
- playing another family member;
- what the marks on the tree mean.
- The family tree links to it: "New to the family? How it works".
- Long names on the tree now wrap onto two lines instead of being cut off. Hover a name to see it in full.
Relationships in the talk window
- Talking to a Living World resident now shows how they regard you, under their name. It shows Friend, Known, Enemy or Hostile, a bar from −100 to +100, and the number.
- Press it to see what the number means and what raises or lowers it.
- This works for residents in the street, at home, on the road and in the deep.
- Someone who won't talk to you now says where you stand, e.g. "Mara turns away from you. (Enemy, −52)".
- On the classic skin, the talk window is the original game's and does not show the badge.
Bigger text
- The Notice Board's text is a step larger, and the Family tab's tree, card and labels are larger too.
- On a phone, the fold headers are bigger to tap.
Patch Notes: See-through windows indoors, every faction's standing
Windows
- Windows inside buildings are now see-through. From a house, tavern, shop, guild hall or temple you see the real street, sky and weather through the panes, and the window's lead lattice and frame stay in place. This needs Settings > Graphics > Real windows set to Full, which is the default on High and Ultra.
Character sheet
- The Standing page now lists your reputation with every guild, temple, knightly order, kingdom, coven, vampire clan and Daedric Prince by default, not only the ones you belong to. If you turned "Every faction's standing" off (Settings > Interface > Character sheet), it stays off.
Patch Notes: Oats, repair kits and sturdier wagons
Oats and Wagon Repair Kits
- Stables now sell Sacks of Oats and Wagon Yards now sell Wagon Repair Kits online too. Until now they were only sold offline.
Wagons no longer break down
- A worn-out wagon never becomes unusable. At its worst it is Failing: its team pulls it more slowly, but you can still drive it, hitch it, have it follow you and take it on journeys. A Wagon Yard or a repair kit brings its speed back.
- A wagon that was already broken down in your save is now Failing, so you can drive it again.
Horses
- Horses never die. A horse left unfed goes hungry and then starves. It gets weaker and won't gallop, but it stays yours, and one meal puts it right.
Patch Notes: Field Fixes
The Chapters are open
- The Chapters from "The Chapters" update are now open to everyone. They had been switched on for developers only.
- Guild chapters, hall writs and your own chapter writ now appear on the Notice Board's Work tab.
- Boards fill in town by town: a town's chapters appear once three players have visited its guild halls.
Harbours
- Docks no longer cross each other. In harbours round a cape or a bay's horn, two piers could meet over the water in an X; Penwall Derry was one. A pier now ends where it meets its neighbour's, and no berth is placed with its quay over another's.
Decorating
- Fixed a phantom room tab in two-storey homes, often "Room 3". It sat in the gap between the floors, and picking it sent the decorating camera into the walls.
Trading
- If your trading is held over an item, a refused trade now names that item instead of "something".
- The hold notice now warns that each hold counts: the third time, trading stays frozen until staff have looked, even after the item is gone.
- If a hold stays after the item is gone, the game now tells you it is waiting on staff review instead of saying nothing.
The Etheric Sea
- The sea west of the Bay is water again. You can swim there, Buoyancy works, and you can get back to your ship. Before, you stood on a seabed under the surface.
Lighting
- A torch, lantern or Candle spell underwater no longer whites out the screen. It gives a soft glow and still lights what's near you.
- Lights in heavy fog and sandstorms glow a little less, for the same reason.
Patch Notes: Smoother rain on long sessions
Weather
- Rain and snow no longer get choppy after the game has been left open for many hours.
Patch Notes: Greater Giant and quests in the void
Greater Giant
- The Greater Giant in the open zone drops its proper loot again: two elite-table drops (magic and common pieces, a chance at rare or legendary, and gold by level). Before this fix it only dropped an ordinary giant's purse.
- The Greater Giant now hits every player at four times damage. Before, it did that only to the player whose game spawned it. Everyone else took hits like an ordinary zone giant.
Quest monsters and items in the void
- A quest monster, item or person could be placed outside its dungeon if the dungeon was built at a different size from the one the quest was set up on. One example was the mummy for Dust of Restful Death in Ruins of Old Barbara's Place. Now, each time a dungeon loads, anything on a spot that doesn't exist is moved to a valid spot inside. To fix a quest that's already stuck, leave the dungeon and walk back in, or reload.
Patch Notes: Riding view fix
Fixes
- Riding with the Morrowind models in third person no longer paints Daggerfall's 2D horse head and neck over the screen. You see only your character on the 3D horse.
Patch Notes: Fonts, chat colours and language channels
Text font
- New Text font setting under Overhauls > UI (for Enhanced Plus and DFO Grimoire), with five choices: Game, Sans, Monospace, Dyslexic (OpenDyslexic) or My font.
- My font takes the name of a font installed on your computer. List my fonts shows them in browsers that support it.
- The change applies at once. OpenDyslexic downloads only if you choose it.
Chat
- Every channel has its own colour:
- World is white, Region green, Guild purple, Local grey, Party teal, Language rose.
- Each tab shows a colour square.
- Turn this off in Settings > Gameplay > Other players > Chat colours by channel.
- Player names have their own colour, separate from their words: strangers brass (red on Grimoire), you pale gold, party members green, friends blue.
- Language channels, in 15 languages:
/lang dejoins one,/lang offleaves it,/langlists them all, and/lc <text>speaks there.- You can also choose one in Settings > Gameplay > Other players > Language channel.
- A Lang tab appears while you're in one.
- @mentions: a line with
@YourNameis highlighted in gold, shows over the world from any tab, and plays a chime. Turn the chime off with Chime when someone @mentions you. - On DFO Grimoire, a chat tab's unread count is a seal beside its name: red, or gold when it holds a mention.
DFO Grimoire fixes
- Inventory: the worn sets lines (e.g. Dagon's Brand 7/9) sit under the paperdoll only, so the item box keeps its full height.
- Pause menu: the right-hand page is centred instead of pushed far to the right.
- Scry (Reforge):
- The price no longer runs over the Scry button, so you can read it and buy again.
- On Grimoire each family's name is in the book's red, and the reason you can't afford it is in soft ink.
- Rows: hovered and chosen rows are washed a shade darker instead of getting a red bar. The dashed boxes round empty lists are gone.
- Faint text is darkened just enough to read.
Patch Notes: The Beacon Tower
The lighthouses are beacon towers
- Port town lighthouses were built like lighthouses from a much later age: whitewash and red stripes, a glass lantern room, a copper dome. They are now beacon towers of the Iliac Bay: bare grey stone with a battlemented parapet round the gallery, an open stone lantern of eight arches under a steep slate roof, and a fire burning in an iron brazier inside.
- The beacon is lit from dusk to dawn. The flames rise in the brazier at nightfall and its sweeping beams still reach far out to sea. By day its coals smoulder.
- The climb is unchanged. Talk to the keeper or use the tower's door to climb to the gallery, and use the hatch to come back down. From the gallery you can look through the arches at the fire.
- Windows on the lighthouse and the shipyard office now have small leaded panes.
Patch Notes: The Spyglass
No more spotting ships at a glance
- Looking toward a far-off ship used to show her card, with her type and how far off she was, before you had identified her at all. You could spot and range ships without ever raising the spyglass. Now a ship you have not made out shows no card, whether you are simply looking at her or have your broadside laid on her.
- To make her out, come within plain sight of her, let your Lookout call her colours, or hold your spyglass on her. Then her card shows as before.
Your own ship no longer blocks the spyglass
- Raising the spyglass at the helm used to fill most of the view with your own masts, sails and crew. The glass now looks past your own ship: while it is raised, her rigging and hands drop out of the view.
- Every ship beyond yours stays in view and can be studied with the glass, even one lying close alongside.
- Looking straight along the deck toward the bow of a very long ship, such as the Large Galley, part of her bow can still show.
Patch Notes: Smoother frames near busy servers
Performance
- Ships sailing around other players far across the map are no longer built and animated on your screen. They come into view, fading in as any ship does, well before the haze would let you see them. On a busy server this gave back about a third of each frame: one player went from 38-45 FPS to 103-150 FPS.
Patch Notes: Morrowind people - their own shadows, their own clothes
Shadows
- With Morrowind data attached, townsfolk, guards, shopkeepers, foes, travellers and the figures you place now cast the shadow of their own Morrowind body (its shape, its pose, its clothes) instead of the old Daggerfall sprite's outline on the wall behind them.
- Someone just out of view still throws their shadow into it, as the old sprites did.
- A foe burning away, or a companion stepping through a portal, loses their shadow once more of them is gone than whole, as the old sprites did.
- In a room with many lamps, such as a guild hall, people standing still cast a shadow from every lamp, not only from the nearest twelve.
- Your own body, other players' bodies and your household's do not cast a shadow yet.
No two alike
- Townsfolk, shopkeepers, guild members, nobles and priests are dressed from a wardrobe of their own: tops, breeches, skirts, robes and cloaks, each drawn as one of Morrowind's own garments of its kind, in their kind's colours. Their station sets how fine the clothes are, on Morrowind's ladder from common up to exquisite.
- A noble never wears common clothes, a farmhand never wears silk, and a dyed garment keeps its colour.
- Heads and hairs are now paired freely, from every pairing of the heads and hairs your Morrowind data offers a race at character creation (before, there were ten). Together with their clothes, this makes two people who look alike rare.
- Who wears what is sharper:
- A knightly order's people wear full plate of one metal by rank: iron and steel at the bottom, up to dwarven, orcish and ebony.
- A fighters' guild's people wear whatever armour came to hand.
- The Dark Brotherhood dress in dark clothes.
- The street's walkers keep the cut their sprite shows: robes, a skirt or breeches.
- Khajiit and Argonians go barefoot and bareheaded, as Morrowind dresses them.
Your decorations
- A person you place as a decoration in your home or your yard now stands in a Morrowind body too, dressed for who the figure is and of the region's race.
Patch Notes: MIDI out
Music
The music can now play on a MIDI synth or device: Settings > Audio > Music > MIDI out. Pick a connected device to hear the soundtrack on it instead of the built-in synth. If the device is unplugged, the music goes back to the built-in synth.
Patch Notes: Every horse is its own, and every wagon needs upkeep
Horses come in colours and patterns
Every horse is now born unique. It has a coat (bay, chestnut, black, grey, dun, buckskin or palomino), a pattern (solid, pinto, appaloosa, dapples or roan) and plain legs, socks or stockings. Its markings fall in a place no other horse shares. The look shows everywhere your horse does: under you in first person, standing, following or pulling your wagon, and under your rider in third person.
Restyle it at the Stable
Open the Stable page (Holdings tab) to change your horse's coat, pattern and legs, free and at any time. Its markings stay its own.
A real 3D horse for the Morrowind body
If you play with the Morrowind body, your horse is now a fully animated 3D horse. It walks, trots and gallops at the speed you ride, and your character sits astride it: feet in the stirrups, hands on the reins, leaning into the gallop.
- You can now ride in third person with the Morrowind body. Zoom out with the wheel or the view toggle as you would on foot.
- In first person, you look down over the 3D horse's neck instead of the old riding sprite.
- Other riders on the Morrowind body, Horse Cart and Cargo's horses (standing, following, parked and pulling) and the road's wagon teams are all 3D horses too.
- The 3D horse wears the same coat, pattern, legs and markings as your sprite horse, and each flank has markings of its own.
Horses have stats, stamina and a bond
Every horse is born with its own Speed, Stamina, Endurance and Strength, so no two horses ride alike. A Stable now offers three different horses each day, and each horse's card shows its stats before you buy, priced by how good it is.
- Gallop on its breath. Hold Run on horseback to gallop. Your horse spends its breath instead of your fatigue. When it runs out the horse is winded and won't gallop until it has caught its breath. A horse bar appears on the HUD while you ride.
- Feed it to grow your bond. Feed your horse oats (sold at the Stable) or give it an apple as a treat. Every meal grows your bond, from Wary up to Kindred, and a stronger bond makes every stat better, up to +20.
- Keep it fed. A hungry horse is weaker. A starving one won't gallop, and your bond slowly fades. A horse never dies of hunger. A horse sent to the stable is fed there, and one left waiting in the wild grazes. On long journeys and rests, your horse eats oats you carry in your pack or wagon.
- More than one horse. The Stable page (Holdings tab) shows every horse you own, with its stats, bond, hunger and breath. Feed any of them, or pick which one you ride.
Wagons wear out and need upkeep
Every wagon now wears as you drive it, and faster off-road or with a heavy load. Long journeys wear it too. A worn wagon slows down, and at nothing it breaks down where it stands. A broken wagon won't move or travel until it's mended, but you can still take things out of it and ride your horse for help.
- Mend it at a Wagon Yard. The wagonwright now has a Mend option. If your wagon isn't with you, they'll go out to it for a little more.
- Patch it in the field with a Wagon Repair Kit (sold at the Wagon Yard). Each kit takes an hour and mends a quarter, up to 60%, enough to limp a broken wagon into town.
- Smiths and the Repairs Objects enchantment don't repair wagons or horses.
Horse care and wagon upkeep are new switches under Features → World → Travel (Horse care, Wagon upkeep), on by default. Online they're always on. Oats and repair kits aren't sold online until the next release; online horses eat apples and wagons are mended at a Wagon Yard until then.
Your horse and wagon on screen (Enhanced Plus)
On Enhanced Plus, a new panel appears under the compass whenever you ride a horse or drive a wagon.
- See how your horse is doing: its breath, its hunger (with how many hours of food it has left) and its bond, plus your gait and speed. On a wagon it also shows the wagon's condition and its load.
- Do it from the panel: Feed oats, give an Apple, use a Repair kit, open the wagon's Cargo, open the Stable page, switch the View, or Dismount, all without a menu or a key.
- Teams count: on a wagon, the hunger shown is your team's hungriest horse, and Feed goes to that horse.
- Greyed out means not now: a button you can't use yet is greyed out, and hovering it says why (no oats, full, out of reach).
- Free the mouse (Y) to click the buttons, or tap them on a phone.
A clearer Stable page
- Each horse's bond is a bar now, with the points left to its next level.
- A fed horse says how many hours of food it has left, and a winded horse says so.
- Hover a stat to see where it comes from: what the horse was born with, its bond bonus and any hunger penalty.
- The wagon's condition bar is coloured by its state, and the card shows what a Wagon Yard charges to mend it.
Seen by everyone
Other players see your horse's look, whether you're riding it, it's pulling your wagon, or it's waiting where you left it. The horses on the roads now come in every coat and pattern too.
