Patch Notes: One friend list, and gentler falls
Online
- One friend list on every device. Your friends, requests and party were tied to the browser you played in, so a laptop and a desktop each had their own list. They now belong to your account: the same list wherever you sign in. The first time each of your devices connects after this update, the friends it knew are added to your list, so nobody is lost.
- A friend list can't be taken over. A friend list that someone else had set up under your account before this update is thrown away, not given to you.
- An old copy of the game says so. If a tab or the desktop app is still running an older build, it now tells you to update the game to see your friends and party, instead of showing an empty list.
Magic
- Cast when used items work in dungeons. A bracer of Ice Storm, a scarab of Fireball, or any item that casts a spell when used now casts it underground. Before, the click just swung your weapon, the item still lost condition, and the spell went off the next time you clicked outside.
- A spell readied from an item goes through doors with you. Use an item, then step into or out of a dungeon, and the spell is still ready to cast. It no longer fires by itself once you're back outside, or vanishes.
- The right cost underground. The readied-spell line in a dungeon showed an item's spell at its full spell-point cost. An item's spell costs you nothing, and now it says so.
Movement
- Slowfall no longer sticks you to walls. A slow fall that drifted into a wall could catch onto it, or hang on a steep cliff face, before you reached the ground. Now you slide down and land.
- No more hard landing after a slow fall. Slipping off a wall you were climbing while Slowfall was on used to drop you at full speed and hurt. Now you come down gently.
- Steep slopes while Jump is active. With the Jump spell's air control, holding Forward into a steep face no longer holds you up on it.
- Gliding onto a roof. A slow glide that reaches a lower roof's edge still steps up onto it.
Maps
- Turn and tilt the 3D map together. Holding the right mouse button now turns and tilts the dungeon map at the same time. A small wobble while you turn still doesn't tilt it, but a real move up or down does, for the rest of that drag.
World
- World of Daggerfall's mountains look like rock. The big rock formations and mountains had their texture stretched across hundreds of metres, so they looked like smeared ground reaching into the sky. Their rock now repeats at a natural scale, so it shows as rock from up close to about a kilometre away. Their size and shape haven't changed.
- Planks and stone stay straight. Fort palisades and dock stonework keep their planks and blocks running the right way.
Interface
- The game's cursor stays the game's cursor. Hovering over a menu's scrollbar, or moving close to the right or bottom edge of the screen, no longer swaps the custom cursor for your system's arrow. This works with both the classic and the enhanced look.
- Tidier scrollbars. Menu scrollbars use the game's slim stone style. On a phone or tablet, scrollbars stay hidden as before.
Good to know
- Area spells of buffs reach you. An Area at Range or Area Around Caster spell made only of buffs, such as Regenerate with Fortify, also lands on you when you cast it. This came in the previous update.
