Patch Notes: Gathering on the crosshair, pickups at the centre
Professions: choose from the loot list
- Herb patches, ore veins, boulders, trees, bodies and fishing water now use the loot list. Look at one and the same box that lists a body's loot shows its name, your profession, and what you can do there: "Pick Red Rose", "Quarry the stone", "Skin the Grizzly Bear", "Search the Grizzly Bear", and so on.
- Pick an action the way you take loot. Click it, press your activate key, or tap it. The Up arrow moves to the next action; you can rebind it in Controls.
- An action you can't do yet says why, right on its row: no tool, rank too low, or the day's limit reached.
- Starting a hold action (kneeling, steadying, skinning) from the list holds it for you, the same as using the tool from the hotbar.
- On the Classic skin and on touch screens, where the loot box isn't shown, the same choices come up as a small list window.
Gathering is drawn on the crosshair
The gathering minigames no longer open a panel over the screen. Each one is drawn on and around your crosshair, so you can see the world while you work. The rules and timings haven't changed.
- Mining: the rock's five strike points are marked where they are on the rock and move as you look around. The glinting point shows the circle a blow must land in to count double. A blow flashes on the crosshair, gold when it hits the glint.
- Logging: a ring closes on the notch around your crosshair. It lights up in the band where a strike is a Clean Cut.
- Herbs: your hold fills as an arc around the crosshair. It turns orange if you bruise the plant by moving.
- The Basket: the glint appears near the crosshair with a ring showing how long it has left. Your three finds show as small diamonds.
- Skinning: the cutting line is laid on the body itself, with a faint band showing how far off it you can stray. The first point shows where to start, and points light up as you pass them.
- Fishing: winding the net fills an arc, with the throw distance beside it. While you wait, a float sits under the crosshair, and a gold ring flashes at a tug. Hauling is a small upright bar beside the crosshair; keep the weight inside the band.
- One line of help. A short hint sits under the crosshair and fades after a couple of seconds. Your progress shows as small diamonds above it.
- Every strike, find, slip, splash and tug also has a sound.
- With reduced motion turned on in your system, nothing pulses. Logging uses a short still bar instead of the closing ring.
Crafting stations
- The anvil's heat, the loom's beat and the workbench's plane use the Enhanced Plus look: the same dark stone frame as the loot box, with your strikes shown as diamonds. They work exactly as before.
Pickups at the centre of the screen
- On the Enhanced skin, what you pick up shows at the centre of the screen. Each item gets a card with its picture, its name in its rarity colour, and how many you took. Gold shows as "+N Gold".
- Take more of the same item while its card is up and the count goes up instead of adding another card.
- Up to four cards show at a time. Each stays about two and a half seconds, then fades. They stay clear of the crosshair, the loot box, the hotbar and the HUD.
- Works for every quick-loot take, one item or Take All, from a body, a dropped pile or a catch of fish.
- If something can't be taken (your pack is too heavy, for example), you're still told why.
- The Classic skin keeps Daggerfall's own pickup message.
World of Daggerfall: bushes on the ground
- The bushes around bandit camps and other World of Daggerfall sites no longer float in the air or sink into the hillside. Each one now stands on the ground under it. Tents, fires, walls and rocks are where they were.
Party travel: the ready-up stays on screen
- The leader keeps the Party tab while the party readies up. Choosing a destination on the travel map used to close the Party tab, taking the ready count and Call off with it. It now comes back when the map closes.
- The leader's "Waiting for the party to ready up (n/m ready)" message stays up for the whole round and updates as people answer.
- A member who has the Party tab open answers there with Ready or Stay behind. The pop-up question only appears if the tab is closed.
