Patch Notes: Naval Combat
Companions - take your crew ashore (2026-09-30)
- Bring up to two hands with you. In your boat's menu, choose Companions and pick a hand to Take ashore. They walk with you everywhere: through towns and the wilds, into shops and houses, and down into dungeons. Pick them again from your boat's menu to Send back aboard. While you sail, they're aboard with the rest of the crew, and step ashore with you again.
- They fight at your side. Companions attack anything hostile near you, quest monsters included, and enemies fight them back, even with monster infighting switched off. Your own blows, arrows, spells and thrown torches never hurt them, and each one shows a green health bar over their head.
- In co-op too. Companions fight your friends' monsters as well as your own, and your friends' monsters fight them back. Everyone in the game sees your companions as allies, in dungeons as well.
- They keep up. With nothing to fight, a companion follows a few steps behind and finds a way round walls. They won't chase an enemy far from you: drawn too far off, they come back to your side. If you leave one far behind, or drop down a floor, they catch up to you. Fast travel, doors and loading a save all bring them along, wounds as they were.
- Knocked out, never killed. A companion who runs out of health is carried back to the ship to rest for eight hours before they can come ashore again, and their crewmates' spirits take a small knock. While ashore, a companion's place on deck stands empty, and the crew card says who is ashore with you.
