Patch Notes: Oblivion Gates - Dagon's Reckoning
The Warden's fight now crosses three courts and ends in a wipe you have to break.
His marks, up front
- His aspect and trials show under his health bar, each with its icon and what it does.
- A card shows tonight's marks before the fight: beside the gate's countdown in the street, and again as you step into the court. It lists how to deal with each one.
Three courts
- Two new courts, the same size as the first. At each phase change he bounds across the sea of fire to the next one.
- A walkway rises out of the fire behind him, stone by stone, so you can follow. He waits under his ward until someone crosses, then opens the new phase.
- He only targets fighters in his court, and he can only be struck from his court too: blows and spells from a walkway or a court he has left don't land. Don't get left behind.
Dagon's Reckoning (final phase)
- In the last court he calls Dagon's Reckoning from its centre every minute or so. It lands on the whole arena, and nothing resists it.
- Crystals of Oblivion grow across the floor while he calls it: 3 to 8, depending on how many of you are there. Break every one before it lands.
- Break them all and the Reckoning fails. He is stunned for 8 seconds, and every hit on him deals 50% more. The crystals must break before its last half second: a crystal struck later doesn't count.
- The boss bar counts the crystals left and the seconds remaining. The chat names whoever breaks each one.
His ground and his blows
- Burning ground now hits harder, and you can feel it: the edge of the screen glows in the ground's colour while you stand in it, flares when it burns you, and a warning tells you to step out. You also hear it hiss when you step in.
- He hits harder: every attack deals about a third more. Two heavy hits in a row will kill you if you haven't healed.
- Clearer telegraphs: a sharp edge you can read from anywhere, a fuse that burns around the rim as the wind-up runs down, faster pulsing as it's about to land, a texture showing what it is (fire, frost, lightning, venom), and a shockwave when it hits.
- Impacts throw sparks and debris, and you can see the Meteor fall out of the sky onto its target.
His spoils
- Your loot spreads out when he falls. Each piece flies in its own direction across a wide arc toward you and lands at least a metre from the others, instead of in one heap.
- Nothing falls off the edge. Every piece lands on the court's floor, however close to the edge he died.
- Look at a piece to inspect it: its name and rarity show under your crosshair, with its stats in quick loot. The gold shows how much it is.
- Press activate to pick it up, like any loot pile. Walking over it still works too.
- His chest bursts in gold as the spoils leave it, and each piece sparks in its rarity's colour where it lands (brighter for Rare and up).
The Broker's insignia
- The Sigil Broker sells two new pieces, listed under the day's stock as Insignia. They belong to your account: buy once, and every character on it can wear them.
- Gatebreaker (30 Sigil Stones): a new title, worn over your name in the colours of a Gate's fire.
- Dagon's Fire (50 Sigil Stones): an aura, a ring of fire that circles the ground where you stand. Flames lick up out of it and embers wheel around it, and every player near you sees it.
- They are expensive on purpose. Each Gate you help close drops one Sigil Stone, so the title takes about thirty Gates and the aura about fifty. Your account has to have closed enough Gates to pay the price, not only carry the stones.
- Wear them or take them off from the Broker's window or your account card. Your own aura lights at once, and other players see it from your next step into a new area.
- You need to be signed in with a username and password to buy insignia; guest accounts can't keep them.
Crowds
- Much smoother with lots of players around when you use the Morrowind bodies. Players outside your view are no longer animated and drawn every frame, the bodies near you share the work across frames, and a crowd milling around you no longer makes the game rebuild bodies over and over (the main cause of the stutter).
- When a nearer player takes over a body slot from a farther one, it now waits a moment instead of swapping constantly, and a player wearing the same look reuses a body that was just freed instantly.
Reload the game after the update to fight (the gate needs this version).
