Patch Notes: Quest tracker

Quests (Enhanced interface)

  • The quest you're on, on your HUD. A small card at the top right shows one quest: its title, the start of its newest journal entry, where it points ("Llugwych in Wayrest province", or "(you are here)" when you're already there), and how long you have left on a deadline your journal gave you, which turns gold under a day. A main quest's card says "Main Quest".
  • It follows along. By default the card shows the quest your journal last changed. When there's no quest to show, it isn't there.
  • Or choose one. Press Track beside a quest in the journal (the Quests tab of the pause menu, or the chronicle) to keep that quest on the card. Press it again to stop. The quest your HUD follows says "On the HUD" beside its button. Your choice is saved with your character, and let go when the quest is over.
  • The journal opens where you are. The Quests tab now opens on the quest the card is showing.
  • Online, the party list moves down to make room for the card.
  • It stays out of the way. The card steps aside for the Overworld's panel, a journey's junction and, on a phone, the chat, and moves down when a larger HUD scale grows the compass.
  • Turn it off under Features, Interface, "Quest tracker". The Classic interface is unchanged.

Patch Notes: The way there

Quests (Enhanced interface)

  • Your journal now says where a quest points. Under each active quest, in the Quests tab and in the chronicle (the L key), a line names the place its latest journal entry sends you, in the same words Daggerfall uses: "Llugwych in Wayrest province". It only names what the entry itself says, or what is already on your map: a quest that says "a house in Daggerfall" still leaves the house for you to find, and a town the entry names but your map lacks is named without its province unless the entry names that too.
  • Show on map. Beside that line, a button closes the journal and opens the travel map on the place, as Daggerfall's own logbook always could with a click. It appears outdoors, where the map can open. If the map still can't open (an enemy near, say), it tells you why, as it always has.
  • "Not on your map yet." If the place is named but not yet on your map, the journal tells you to ask around for directions. Townsfolk can mark it for you.
  • The chronicle shows how long you have left. A quest with a deadline now shows "Time remains" on its card, counting down live and turning gold under a day.
  • Older journal entries that named a different place keep their own Show on map in the Quests tab.
  • The Classic logbook is unchanged.

Patch Notes: Quest marks

Quests (Enhanced interface)

  • Your quests on the map. Open the map and every active quest's destination is marked with a gold diamond above the place. The quest you're following is filled in dark; the others are outlined, and the legend shows both. Point at one to see the quest, where it is, and how long you have left; several quests at one place are listed together, the one you're following first. Press a diamond to pick its place, and the place's card names its quests.
  • And on the compass. When you're outdoors, a gold diamond on the compass shows which way to go for the quest you're following.
  • Only what you already know. A place is only marked once it's on your map, the same rule Daggerfall's own logbook uses before it offers to show you a place. Nothing is revealed early.
  • Not on your map yet? The quest card on your HUD says so and tells you to ask around. Townsfolk can give you directions and mark it for you.
  • Turn it off under Features, Interface, "Quest marks". The Classic interface, and Daggerfall's own map windows if you prefer them, are unchanged.

Patch Notes: Quest news

Quests (Enhanced interface)

  • Your journal tells you when it changes. A notice slides in at the right edge when a quest begins, when its journal gains a new entry, when a deadline your journal gave you has less than a day left, and when it is completed or ends. Each one gives what happened and the quest's title, and a new entry or a deadline adds one line: the start of the entry, or the time left. A main quest's notice says "Main Quest".
  • One notice per quest. If a quest changes twice in quick succession, you get one notice, not a stack of them - and it keeps the news that matters most: an ending over an entry, a deadline over an entry while it is still under a day.
  • Only real news. An entry written again with the same words, or a clock the quest never told you about, is not news.
  • Read aloud. A screen reader announces each notice once, whole.
  • It waits for you. A notice's time only runs while the HUD is showing. News that arrives as you open a window is still there when you close it, and a deadline's notice then says the time left as it stands. Loading a game clears the notices of the game you left.
  • Your choice. Turn it off under Features, Interface, "Quest news". With it off, the journal changes silently, as it does in Daggerfall.
  • The quest's own messages and popups are unchanged, and the Classic interface is unchanged.

Patch Notes: The quest journal's latest entry

Fixed

  • The journal showed an old entry as a quest's current one. When a quest rewrote an earlier journal entry (a deadline moved, a plan changed), the Quests tab and the chronicle kept showing the entry that came before it as the quest's latest. They now show the entry you were given last. The Classic logbook is unchanged.
