Patch Notes: Smoother frames
The game does less work in each frame. The picture does not change.
Every frame
- The game has fewer short stops (hitches).
- The game reads your settings, mod switches and key bindings one time. It reads them again only when they change.
- The game sends its fixed shadow data to the GPU one time, not in each frame.
- The grass and the flat sprites need less work to draw.
- The game uses the same lists and records again in each frame. Because of this, the game stops less often to clear unused memory.
Harbours
- A port checks the depth of its water again only when the ground that it reads moves. It does not do this check every 10 seconds.
The overworld
- Travel on the Overworld is smoother. The game plans the trips of each town one time, not again at each tick.
- The weather and the forecast do less work.
- The sea lanes and the travel readout do less work.
Water
- The water copies only the part of the screen that it reads.
Town shadows
- The game does less shadow work for the parts of a town that have no shadow cells.
- A lantern that does not move does not draw its shadows again.
Cyrodiil (offline)
- The game makes the zone outline of Cyrodiil in small steps, not in one long stop.
Online
- The game decodes the art of other players off the main thread.
- The game keeps the look and the name tag of a player who stands still.
- The save check that occurs at intervals does less work for large saves.
The limit
- If the GPU is the limit of your computer, these changes do not make your FPS much higher.
