Faster playback
- Race matching sources: auto-play tries up to 8 of its matching links at once and plays the first one that actually delivers video, instead of waiting on a slow or dead pick. Turn it on or off under Playback → Stream Selection.
- Head start: the race starts checking links while addons are still answering.
- Quicker starts: less waiting between a link winning and the video starting.
- Quality and audio menu: picking a quality or audio language races the matching sources too, while keeping your language and quality preferences. Switches resume where you were. A source that can't seek no longer restarts from the beginning, and a slow source isn't dropped while it's still loading.
- Next episode ready to go: the next episode's sources are fetched while the current one plays. Next, the next-episode card and the episode list start it without searching. This is controlled by "Preload Next Episode Sources", now on by default.
- Addon fetching:
- More requests go out in parallel.
- Slow servers time out instead of hanging.
- The details page moves on from a slow metadata addon after about 1.5 s.
- Streams you open yourself go ahead of background prefetches.
Extensions
- Far more extensions now work, and extensions can save their settings.
- Extension settings screens open from each extension's row.
- Source languages: only sources in the languages you choose are searched.
- DNS-over-HTTPS choices for extensions.
- Sources are searched all at once instead of in a queue, and links arrive as they're found.
Home
- Highlight size: Dynamic (follows poster width) or Custom, with its own size slider. In Layout → Poster Card.
- Custom enrichment: place numbered highlight spots in Reorder Home Catalogs. Highlights and Grand rows only appear there.
- Highlight exclusions: keep types (movies, series, anime, K-drama) or genres out of Smart Highlights.
- Reorder Home Catalogs and Collections each have their own tab under Content & Discovery.
- Quiet selection: a new option where cards just grow and rise a little when selected, with no outline.
- Smoother row scrolling when holding a direction.
- Saved Home themes can be removed by holding them.
Library, Calendar and Search
- Trakt, Simkl and MDBList lists appear in the Library as read-only bins.
- Browsing a bin shows the selected title's blurred artwork behind it.
- The Calendar background matches the rest of the app.
- Search: the text cursor sits right after the last letter, and the top bar is frosted glass.
Details page
- Similar titles and Reviews have their own buttons. Similar titles is laid out like Search.
Player
- New audio/quality and subtitle cards in dark glass that pop out from the bottom right. A settings wheel holds the extra options, and subtitle languages are a pill row.
- The in-player episode list is black, with a white outline on what's focused.
- Seek previews start faster on slow first starts.
Menu and look
- Menu glass: a new Blur level for the sidebar on Android 12 and up. The top bar is now clear glass, like the sidebar.
- Fixed: with the sidebar always shown, other tabs showed a strip of Home's artwork under it.
- Fixed: the voice search glow now reaches the left edge, and the screen no longer flashes black beside the sidebar.
- Notifications: no longer show twice when you leave a page.
- Echo logo: now on the profile screen, the loading screen, Settings and About.
Profiles and avatars
- The Avatars page is redone. Added avatars are shared by every profile and can be removed.
- Add several avatars at once by separating their links with commas.
- Import and export avatar packs.
Updates
- In-app updater: checks this repo's releases and installs the right APK for your device. Fixed for very large downloads, devices without an installer screen, and the Stable channel before any stable release exists.
Removed
- The old Discover screen.
- Automatic subtitle sync. The manual Subtitle Timing tool is still there.
Stability
- Fixed freezes ("app not responding") when leaving the player or switching sources.
- Your OMDb key is no longer included in cloud profile sync.
