Pebrel 2.3.0

English

This release focuses on improving terminal responsiveness, SSH reliability, AI Agent integration, native content reading and the Android experience. The changes below cover 2.2.2 to 2.3.0.

Packages include Windows x64/ARM64 packages, macOS Apple Silicon/Intel builds, Linux x64 packages, an Android universal APK and the offline relay package. All packages are version 2.3.0; macOS, Linux and Android retain their Preview distribution labels.

If 2.2.2 reports an update preparation failure, save your work, fully exit Pebrel (including the tray), then run the Windows installer manually. The installed 2.2.2 updater performs its process check before the new installer can run.

Added

• Add serial-port terminal panes through saved addresses such as serial:COM3,115200,8N1. Saving, pinning, restoring and duplicating sessions retain the port parameters; closing a pane interrupts pending reads and writes. (#630)
• Add OSC 7501 revision 0.4 program status reports for idle, working, done, blocked, errors, interaction requests and progress. Valid program reports take priority over hook and screen-derived activity; connection failures remain authoritative. (#691)
• Add muted, looping video backgrounds on macOS. Playback pauses when the window is hidden, minimized or fully occluded, and when reduced motion is enabled. (#562)

Fixed

• Fix Windows update preparation by stopping the application-owned session-detection worker before checking other running instances. Cancelling preparation restores detection; other application instances still need to exit. (#775)
• Fix stale Windows executable metadata: File version and Product version now report 2.3.0, matching the installer and application version. (8adcacfa)
• Fix lost startup diagnostics when a local shell fails or a WSL distribution is unavailable. Keep the pane, error output and shell-selection recovery controls visible instead of immediately closing the last window. (#742)
• Fix manual launches being hidden by the silent-login-startup preference. Opening Pebrel manually displays its first window. (#583)
• Fix Monaco fi/fl ligatures leaving empty terminal cells. Programming ligatures that cover their original columns remain joined. (#638)
• Fix ordinary shell directory listings being interpreted as multiline formulas. (#701)
• Fix a resize crash when table-link detection encounters a previous hover position outside the new terminal grid. (#682)
• Fix independent local drafts overwriting one another when saving to the same file concurrently. A competing save reports that the file is busy and retains the unsaved draft. (#585)
• Fix SFTP downloads reporting success when the source ends before its advertised range. Incomplete downloads now report failure. (#732)
• Fix extra blank lines before the default PowerShell prompt after completed output, while retaining the needed separation after output without a final newline and preserving custom prompts. (#705)

• Improve continuous-output rendering by coalescing redraws within an 8 ms interval, reducing repeated work during bursts of terminal output. (#675)
• Improve idle cursor behavior: a blinking cursor stays visibly solid after 8 seconds of silence and resumes blinking when activity returns. (#675)
• Improve Agent detection responsiveness by moving process enumeration off the UI thread and caching bounded detection results. Stale process results cannot erase a newer hook owner. (#675)
• Optimize activity-indicator rendering by reusing unchanged terminal content. Hidden status icons stop requesting animation frames. (#694)
• Improve phone-mirroring and Runtime command response by waking UI event handling as soon as queued work arrives. (#760)
• Optimize Runtime screen reads and JSON responses by sending each complete response from one buffer, reducing repeated small socket writes. (#759)
• Improve scrolling in terminal applications across desktop platforms by batching each wheel gesture while preserving its direction and distance. (#719)

SSH and file transfer

• Improve clipboard-image uploads in built-in SSH by reusing the original pane’s authenticated connection. SFTP rejection is reported promptly, and cancelling negotiation closes only its channel. Uploads require server-side SFTP support. (#768)
• Improve SSH file input: dragging local files or directories, or pasting copied-file entries, uploads them before inserting quoted remote paths into the same pane. Progress and cancellation are available, and paths are inserted only after success. (#748)
• Improve upload destination handling with a separate remote directory for each batch, preserving existing same-name files and supporting empty directories. Pasted paths do not execute automatically or broadcast to other panes. (#748)
• Improve disconnected SSH panes by retaining existing output and showing the failure reason as terminal text. Press R to reconnect or Enter to close the disconnected pane. (#730, #747)
• Improve desktop SSH reconnection by restoring the original remote session, window and pane, including a selected executable and named socket. Unavailable targets fall back to the login shell without creating replacement sessions. (#761)
• Improve SSH display stability across network gaps by retaining the last complete synchronized frame and batching ready output during large redraws. (#725)
• Improve large-input handling over SSH by continuing to receive output while waiting for remote send capacity, avoiding a stalled connection during a long paste. (#728)
• Optimize desktop SFTP file transfers by batching local disk reads and writes while preserving per-chunk cancellation. (#732)
• Improve SSH destination completion inside WSL by reading Host aliases and nested Includes from the selected distribution, user and configuration, including paths with spaces or Chinese characters. (#707)

AI Agents and hooks

• Expand Agent hook support with optional local integrations for Qoder, CodeBuddy, Qwen Code, Droid and Antigravity, disabled by default. Events share the existing activity and notification rules; these additions do not install hooks over SSH or WSL. (#518)
• Improve Hermes integration with an Agent settings entry showing CLI discovery and process-detection status, plus an interactive launch command. Hermes lifecycle hooks remain unavailable. (#734)
• Improve Agent status recovery when remote hook events are lost, reconciling stalled turns without treating ordinary prompt-like output as proof of completion. (#674)
• Improve waiting-for-input status recovery when a screen-detected input form disappears. Consecutive unmatched snapshots clear stale attention instead of leaving a running turn permanently blocked. (#765)
• Improve permission and failure notifications for supported Claude clients when an interactive hook has no controlling terminal, using the client’s terminal-sequence fallback. (#764)
• Improve Windows Codex session detection by reusing a background helper, avoiding repeated app-starting cursor feedback while still refreshing the current session identity. (#729)

Terminal reading and images

• Improve native Markdown reading for supported completed commands, including plain cat file.md. Text can be selected across lines and copied, with code blocks and tables retained. (#704, #705, #770)
• Improve JSON reading with selectable text, click-to-collapse objects and arrays, filtering, inline short arrays and useful collapsed previews. (#705, #770)
• Improve Git diff reading with file headers, addition/deletion counts, paired old/new line numbers and per-file collapse. Keep selection, horizontal scrolling and original-patch copying; unsupported formats retain raw output. (#706)
• Improve long directory listings by folding the middle of output longer than 20 rows while keeping the first and last ten visible. Expansion retains the original colors, links and text selection. (#705)
• Improve explicit native viewing through pebrel view and pipeline use. The Windows console entry pebrel.com preserves pipeline, wait and exit-code behavior; redirected output remains plain text. (#705)
• Improve scrolling and selection alignment by keeping native results, images, formulas and the following prompt on a shared vertical layout. Links and search highlights follow their displayed content. (#705, #750)
• Improve formula reading by keeping each horizontal scrollbar within its own formula instead of overlapping neighboring content. (#770)
• Improve OSC 1337 inline-image placement and ordering through scrolling, overwrites, erasure and screen switches. Late image decoding cannot restore an image that has already been cleared. (#749, #316)
• Improve macOS image previews by using decoded image dimensions for pointer-centered zoom and dragging. (#585)

Fonts and appearance

• Improve terminal character-art proportions at fractional display scales while preserving the selected glyph size. Braille uses a continuous dot grid, and explicit line-height and spacing settings remain effective. (#752, #770)
• Improve font customization with an independent interface-font picker in Appearance settings. (#770)
• Optimize icon font loading with a separately bundled symbol face. Choosing another text font no longer requires loading the full Maple face solely for icons; Maple remains available when selected. (#770)
• Improve background-opacity consistency between the terminal and Settings while keeping text and dialogs opaque. (#698)
• Expand tab-bar appearance controls with file-only tab_bar_opacity and tab_bar_blur overrides for both sidebar and top-tab layouts. Defaults inherit the window appearance. (#751)
• Improve sidebar icon feedback by restoring original colors on hover or selection and using a rounded terminal outline for SSH icons. Bundled icons are compressed losslessly. (#731, #726, #733)
• Improve segmented-control transitions so rapid reversals continue from the currently displayed position and respect reduced-motion preferences. (#684)

Workspace and interaction

• Improve split-pane organization by dragging a pane’s header grip onto another pane to exchange positions, retaining sessions, focus, history and layout ratios. Escape or switching tabs cancels the gesture. (#458)
• Improve tab movement between windows: Alt-drag tears a tab into a new window even on a maximized single-screen desktop; dropping onto another Pebrel window merges it there with a docking preview. (#575)
• Improve split-layout visibility with outline thumbnails in the sidebar, top tabs and collapsed-sidebar title. Clicking a sidebar or top-tab thumbnail cycles pane focus. (#746)
• Improve top-tab scrolling with both horizontal and vertical wheel gestures, and keep the selected tab visible during keyboard navigation. (#694)
• Improve window restoration after a full exit, retaining ordinary window size and restoring Windows positions on attached displays. Explicit grid and position settings take priority. (#460)
• Improve sidebar resizing so releasing the pointer outside the window completes the resize or close operation. Escape and window deactivation still cancel. (#762)
• Improve toolbar feedback with a hand cursor for enabled buttons, and make the whole notification card a click-to-dismiss target. (#502)
• Improve macOS title-bar spacing by keeping the right-side controls inset from the window edge. (#502)

Input, completion and history

• Improve multiline clipboard paste at supported local Windows PowerShell prompts by using the active PSReadLine editor. Input stays editable until Enter and can be undone as one paste, while user key bindings remain intact. (#738)
• Improve right-click copy and paste when copy-on-select is disabled: copy and clear an existing selection, otherwise paste. Ctrl-right-click opens the context menu. (#703)
• Improve hybrid Tab completion so the history popup remains available when the native shell displays prediction text. (#444)
• Improve command suggestions on desktop and Android by ranking usage frequency before recency. Desktop suggestion surfaces share this order, and one PowerShell submission is not counted twice. (#754)
• Expand history management with a confirmed Clear history action for Pebrel’s local, WSL and SSH command records. It clears stale suggestions across application windows, preserves saved commands and shell-owned history, and reports partial removal failures. (#736)
• Improve WSL startup-directory selection so sessions start in the appropriate guest directory. (#735)

Android Preview

• Expand mobile terminal-key customization with editable key combinations and an order that survives application restarts. (#713)
• Improve mobile display-preference restoration, retaining terminal zoom and wrapping when reopening a pane and keeping restored zoom consistent with the displayed surface. (#713, #700)
• Expand mobile multitasking through the top session switcher, opening independent local or SSH tabs while existing sessions continue in the background. (#715)
• Improve mobile SSH recovery by retrying transient failures while the app is running and probing stalled connections on return to the foreground. Reconnection preserves the current tab and draft input. (#715)
• Improve mobile remote-session restoration by retaining the original session, window, pane, executable and named socket. Missing targets open the login shell without substituting another same-name session. (#757)
• Improve mobile scrolling by using the current terminal connection and coalescing adjacent gestures without losing distance. Remote-history browsing preserves the live input position; focusing input returns to the live pane. (#719, #715)
• Improve mobile display stability during keyboard and tab-layout changes by retaining the last complete synchronized frame and sending the final terminal size after the layout settles. (#723)
• Improve mobile attachment uploads by reusing authenticated SFTP without a second password prompt and keeping the operation bound to its originating terminal. (#711)
• Optimize mobile SFTP uploads and downloads with concurrent requests. Interrupted transfers retain visible progress, wait for connection recovery and continue from confirmed progress, with cancellation available. (#720)
• Improve mobile character-art proportions and continuous Braille spacing. Compact rows preserve accents and descenders instead of clipping or painting over them. (#756)

Networking, updates and automation

• Improve update connectivity by applying the configured network proxy to both update checks and downloads. (#579)
• Improve proxy editing by retaining partially typed schemes and preserving socks5h://. Pass the bypass list as no_proxy to new local shells and supported WSL environments; an empty list clears unrelated inherited values. (#384)
• Improve Windows administrator updates by scheduling the installer and restoring the workspace at its original privilege level. Process-exit handling no longer sends an empty path to path queries. (#699)
• Improve Runtime split, zoom and pane-ratio commands by committing the visible terminal layout before replying, so immediately following input uses the new PTY size. (#769)
• Improve Runtime client recovery by rediscovering the resident endpoint after a restart. (#721)

Language, settings and project documentation

• Improve English localization across workspace dialogs, saved-command feedback, version-control actions, session recovery/export and notifications. Changing language preserves the command-search query and selection. (#544)

• 完善上传目标处理，每批文件使用独立远端目录，保留已有同名文件并支持空目录；插入路径不会自动执行，也不会广播到其他窗格。 (#748)

Android Preview

• 完善移动端终端按键自定义，支持编辑组合键，并在应用重启后保留排列顺序。 (#713)

• 完善移动端多会话操作，可通过顶部切换器打开独立的本地或 SSH 标签，已有会话继续在后台运行。 (#715)
• 完善移动端 SSH 故障恢复，应用运行期间重试暂时性故障，回到前台时探测停滞连接；重连保留当前标签与输入草稿。 (#715)
