Rackpad v1.8.4-beta.0

This beta focuses on the rear cabling and detailed rack feedback in
issue #139. Studio remains
opt-in, and the classic rack view remains available. Docker is the supported
general deployment; native Proxmox LXC remains experimental.

What changed

  • Same-face rear cables use direct in-rack curves across the available rack
height, including shelves and intermediate equipment. Existing front patch
    cords retain their direct routing.
  • Each cable saves an Automatic, Direct, Managed or Manual routing mode.
Smooth/Orthogonal remains a separate personal drawing preference.
  • Managed routes can pass through ordered guide positions on installed brush
panels or cable managers. Guides follow device movement and rotation. A
front/rear passage remains one cable, with no added ports or trace hops.
  • Mixed-face continuations identify the destination device, port and face.
Endpoint actions reveal the other end while retaining cable selection.
  • Compact presentation uses quieter rails, smaller labels, thin cables and
side-by-side rack elevations. Hardware starters include category-specific
details, with matching artwork and routing in SVG/PNG exports.
  • Existing ports, cables, placement and device-owned layout snapshots are
preserved. Revised template geometry requires preview and explicit apply.

Upgrade and recovery

Use the immutable image ghcr.io/kobii-git/rackpad:1.8.4-beta.0 once its
publication is complete. The moving beta image follows the beta branch;
latest remains the stable channel.

This release advances the database from schema 51 to 52. Existing links
with manual waypoints become Manual; other links become Automatic. Both inactive
guides and waypoints survive routing-mode changes. Guide references are removed
transactionally when a guide device is deleted or leaves its declared room;
the cable and its connectivity remain intact.

Before upgrading, keep a compatible pre-upgrade database or volume backup,
the previous image, configuration and original RACKPAD_SECRET_KEY together.
Migrations are forward-only. An older binary must not open schema-52 data;
rollback requires restoring the matching pre-upgrade application and backup.
Retain the earlier security upgrade guidance
when upgrading from older releases.

Tester acceptance

Please test the published beta on the arrangement reported in #139:

  1. Rear switch-to-server links spanning 2U, 4U and 6U stay inside the rack,
including paths over shelves. Front patch cords remain readable.
  2. Front, Rear and Both views handle mixed-face connections, continuation
labels, selection, tracing and opposite-endpoint focus correctly.
  3. Routing modes and brush guides survive save/reload and backup/restore.
Moving a guide follows the device; deleting it preserves the cable.
  4. Rotated, side-mounted and rack-top equipment keeps exact port endpoints.
Cross-rack and cross-room handoffs remain understandable.
  5. Compact viewing and SVG/PNG exports are readable, and custom template
bindings and device layout snapshots retain their connections.

Include the tested version, browser/platform and screenshots of anything that
still looks wrong. The synthetic rack is an approximation of the supplied
images; automated checks do not establish acceptance on the actual equipment.
Issue #139 stays open until that confirmation arrives.

Release validation

Publication is gated by the repository's full application, browser, Storage,
Net-SNMP, screenshot, shell/workflow and security checks. Refer to the Actions
results and published release artifacts for the exact candidate's status.
Independent review covers the migration, authorization and backup changes.
No community acceptance, production deployment or Proxmox guest validation is
claimed by this beta.

The existing RFC 3414 SNMP review is rebound only to server tree
708b2d42edf668e89662d64291adb0f40afe9a0c after independent review of the
routing changes. SNMP source and callers are unchanged: source SHA-256 remains
4029cff16fe59c2120322cf3340bc543564bd44f12835b57f20f27c2e35b3e63, with the
same two locations at lines 83 and 90. The rule, owner @Kobii-git, original
2026-11-30 expiry and fail-closed checks are unchanged. Fresh CodeQL analysis
remains a publication requirement.
