📶 Zigbee2MQTT thermostats stop fighting Better Thermostat
If your thermostat runs through Zigbee2MQTT and kept drifting back to its own built-in schedule — heating on its own timetable, ignoring what Better Thermostat asked for — this is the fix.
- At startup Better Thermostat now switches the device to its own manual mode, which is what actually hands the temperature over.
- Previously it asked for a mode called none. Home Assistant offers that mode on every MQTT thermostat but no device implements it, so the request was rejected and the thermostat stayed on its schedule.
- A device already in manual mode is left alone, and one that has no manual mode is not poked at all.
🌡️ Sonoff TRVZB keeps using your room sensor
Two separate reasons a TRVZB would quietly go back to measuring the temperature at the radiator instead of using your room sensor. Both fixed.
- The room temperature is now re-sent every 30 minutes. Better Thermostat only used to send it when the sensor reading changed — so a room sitting at a steady temperature produced no updates at all, and the valve fell back to its own sensor after two hours of silence.
- The valve's sensor setting is now switched over for you. Sending a room temperature to the valve achieves nothing while the valve is still set to regulate on its internal sensor — and a TRVZB that has been re-paired comes back on the internal sensor. Better Thermostat now points it at the external reading whenever it sends one.
- If you deliberately picked a different external sensor on the device, that choice is left as you set it.
🛠️ Valve maintenance is quieter
- After the anti-sticking cycle, the heating mode is only written back when it actually moved.
- On simple thermostats that only have one mode, writing that mode back produced an error in the log every single time — for no benefit, since the device was already in it.
🏷️ Your entity names stay yours
- Better Thermostat now only renames its own entities when you rename the thermostat.
- Before, a Home Assistant restart looked the same as a rename, so entity IDs were regenerated from the thermostat's name — overwriting entity IDs you had renamed by hand, and breaking any dashboard, automation or statistic pointing at the old one.
🚦 A missing room sensor is reported again
- If your room temperature sensor disappeared while a thermostat was also offline, the degraded-mode notice never appeared — Better Thermostat gave up on the check before it got that far.
- The notice now tells you about the missing sensor either way.
