Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds, PC port v1.0.0
No game data is included. You need your own Xbox copy of Chaos Bleeds as a disc image (
.isoor.xiso).
The first full release. It brings Android, the North American release, a language setting, real fullscreen, and a round of rendering and frame-rate fixes.
New: Android 📱
The whole port now runs on Android phones and tablets: Buffy-Chaos-Bleeds-Android-v1.0.0.apk below.
- Its own launcher, mirroring the PC one: Play, Settings, Controls, Mods, Textures, Saves and Install. It installs the game straight from your disc image and can put a home-screen shortcut with the game's logo.
- Touch controls drawn over the game: a stick that starts where your thumb lands, a d-pad, face buttons in the Xbox's colours, and the camera on the right half of the screen. EDIT lets you drag and resize every group of buttons. You can also set size, opacity, camera speed and vibration.
- Controllers (Bluetooth or USB) work as an Xbox controller, and the touch controls hide while you use one.
- Vulkan rendering at 60 fps, tested on a Galaxy Z Fold7 (Snapdragon 8 Elite). It plays on both of the Fold's screens and adjusts when you fold, unfold or turn the phone.
- Custom graphics drivers: load a Turnip or Qualcomm driver package from Settings. If a driver can't start the game, the game uses the phone's own driver and tells you why.
- Sound through AAudio, and it pauses when you leave the app. The Back gesture opens the pause menu.
- The game folder is
games/Buffy Chaos Bleedson the phone, laid out like the PC game folder, so saves and mods move between the two.
New on PC 🖥️
- The North American (NTSC) release is supported, as well as the European one. The launcher sees which disc you installed and starts the matching program. If your image is a release the port doesn't support, it tells you instead of failing.
- Language: English, French, German or Spanish, for the game's text, menus and logo (the European release's own translations). It's in the launcher's Settings and in the game's PC Settings.
- Windowed, Borderless or Fullscreen. Fullscreen switches the monitor to the game's resolution and puts the desktop back when you Alt+Tab away. F11 or Alt+Enter toggles.
- PC Settings in the game's Options now has Display, Overlay (off, FPS or debug) and Language.
Smoother and faster
- The Xbox GPU is no longer emulated at all. The game's graphics library runs in a no-hardware mode and draws straight through Vulkan or Direct3D 11. That leaves less work every frame, and no
XboxDatafolder gets created. - Frame-rate limit from 30 to 360, with the game still at its own speed at any rate. Frame pacing is steadier at high refresh rates such as 144 Hz.
- Less stutter: compiled Vulkan pipelines are saved between runs (
ShaderCache\vk_pipelines.bin). - The debug overlay's frame-time line follows your FPS limit (it was fixed at 16.7 ms).
Rendering fixes
- Flickering doorways and rooms that popped in and out, especially the Magic Box: a bug in how the recompiler translated one floating-point comparison.
- Z-fighting and flickering textures: depth is set per pixel again, as on the Xbox. This also fixes the triangular cut-outs: sign letters cut by walls, the rug's triangles and missing cabinet panels.
- Less shimmer on distant textures (mipmaps are made for textures that had none).
- More accurate float-to-integer conversions and bit shifts in the recompiled code.
Install
- Updating on PC from v0.3.0 or later: the launcher offers the update when it starts, or click Check now on the Play tab.
- New PC install: download Buffy-Chaos-Bleeds-PC-v1.0.0.zip below and unzip it anywhere. Run
Buffy Launcher.exe, open the Install tab, choose your disc image and a folder, then click Install. Press Play. - Android: download Buffy-Chaos-Bleeds-Android-v1.0.0.apk below and install it (allow installs from your browser or file manager when Android asks). Open it, allow All files access, then use the Install tab with your
.isocopied to the phone. You need Android 13 or later, a 64-bit phone with Vulkan 1.3, and the European (PAL) disc. More in the README.
Your saves, settings and mods are kept.
Known limits
- Android: movies are skipped (the story carries on), texture packs and the FPS counter aren't there yet, and the North American release isn't supported yet. Only a Snapdragon phone has been tested. Reports from other phones are welcome.
- Story co-op is still experimental.
- Linux and Steam Deck (Proton) are still untested.
