Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds, PC port v0.4.0 (preview)
No game data is included. You need your own Xbox copy of Chaos Bleeds as a disc image (
.isoor.xiso).
New: Vulkan renderer 🌋
- The game now draws through Vulkan by default. It's the same native renderer as before, on a newer graphics API, and it runs as fast as Direct3D 11 (a steady 60 fps, about 120 fps uncapped in testing).
- The launcher's Settings → Renderer has Vulkan (recommended), Direct3D 11 and Emulated Xbox GPU. If something looks wrong or runs badly on your PC, try Direct3D 11 and please report it.
- A PC whose graphics driver has no Vulkan 1.3 uses Direct3D 11 on its own.
- This is also the groundwork for an Android version later.
New: real save files 💾
- Saves are now ordinary files: one
.savper save in the SaveData folder, easy to back up or copy. - Saves from v0.3.0 and earlier convert on their own the first time you start the game. The originals are kept in SaveBackups.
- The launcher's Saves tab lists them, backs them up and restores a backup.
Improvements
- Less Xbox emulation at run time: the emulated sound chip is off, and the emulated graphics chip does almost nothing while the native renderer draws.
Fixes
- With frame interpolation on, the pause menu no longer drops below 60 fps.
Install
- Updating from v0.3.0: the launcher offers the update when it starts, or click Check now on the Play tab.
- New install: download Buffy-Chaos-Bleeds-PC-v0.4.0.zip below and unzip it anywhere. Run
Buffy Launcher.exe, open the Install tab, choose your disc image and a folder, then click Install. Press Play.
Your saves, settings and mods are kept.
Known limits
- The Vulkan renderer has only been tested on an NVIDIA card. AMD, Intel and Steam Deck reports are very welcome. Direct3D 11 is one click away in Settings.
- Story co-op and frame interpolation are experimental.
- Linux and Steam Deck (Proton) are still untested.
