Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds, PC port v0.3.0 (preview)

No game data is included. You need your own Xbox copy of Chaos Bleeds as a disc image (.iso or .xiso).

New: the launcher updates itself 🔄

From this version on, the launcher checks for new releases when it starts and offers to update. The Updates box on the Play tab also has Check now and What's new. The download is checked against its SHA-256 before anything is replaced. Your saves, settings and your own mods are kept.

New: play as the story cast 🧛

• 14 new character mods for the in-level Character Select: Tara, Evil Giles, Ethan Rayne, Anya, Anyanka, Adam, Civilian (Man) and (Woman), Soldier, Cyborg, Skeleton, Vampire, Vampire (Woman) and Vampire (Leader). Each is the story's own model on a story character's moves.
• Outfits: press X on Character Select to change the highlighted character's outfit. The Story character outfits mod adds more for the six story characters: Buffy 3, Willow 4, Xander 3, Faith 3, Spike 2.
• Model export and import (Advanced tab): export a character to glTF, edit it in Blender, and load it back into the game.

New: a more PC-like game 🖥️

• Keyboard and mouse, with mouse look. You can rebind every key on the launcher's new Controls tab.
• Native Direct3D 11 renderer as the default. The emulated Xbox GPU stays as a fallback in Settings.
• Frame interpolation (experimental): a frame between each two of the game's, for 120 Hz and faster screens.
• Preload game data, so there are no hitches when an area first loads.
• Saves tab: back up and restore your saves.
• Widescreen shows the full 16:9 view by default.

New: Steam Deck and Linux (Proton) 🐧 (experimental, untested)

The launcher and game are made to run under Proton. The launcher unpacks updates itself, because Proton has no tar.exe. On a Steam Deck the first run is fullscreen at 720p. No one has tried it on Linux yet, so please report how it goes. The README has the setup steps.

Fixes

• Story co-op: rooms, doors and enemy spawns now stay loaded around both players when they are far apart. Joining is fixed too.
• Show FPS no longer stutters the game for a few seconds when it's turned on.
• B closes the PC Settings page. The page no longer comes up blank when it's opened quickly or often.
• Menus no longer flash.
• The launcher's tabs no longer leave pieces of the last tab behind.
• The game's exe now has its icon.

Install

1. Download Buffy-Chaos-Bleeds-PC-v0.3.0.zip below and unzip it anywhere.
2. Run Buffy Launcher.exe, open the Install tab, choose your disc image and a folder, then click Install.
3. Press Play.

Updating from v0.1.0 or v0.2.0: those versions have no updater. Unzip this release over your launcher's folder, or unzip it anywhere, run its launcher and click Install into your game folder. Your saves, settings and mods are kept. Updates after this one are automatic.

Known limits

• Story co-op is experimental.
• Frame interpolation is experimental. Reflections on floors lag half a frame.
• Linux and Steam Deck haven't been tested yet.
