The Windows XP Start panel, measured off the real thing. Every size and spacing in the two-column panel now comes from a screenshot of Windows XP's own: the blue column's 24-pixel icons and navy text, the row pitch and separator rules, the pinned items' 32-pixel icons, the All Programs rule, label and green arrow, and the footer's Log Off and Turn Off Computer buttons. Pick the Windows XP icon set (Display Properties > Appearance > Icons) and the two sit side by side without a pixel between them.
The panel's items now carry their keyboard mnemonics (Control Panel, Help and Support, Search, Run, All Programs, Log Off, Turn Off), underlined under the same rule as menus: always, or only after Alt when "Hide keyboard navigation indicators" is on.
