New
- The nested compositor (experimental). X11 lets nothing but xrandr's nearest and bilinear touch what a scaled monitor shows. Behind a switch on Display Properties > Settings, the desktop now runs inside a nested X server (Xephyr with glamor, so programs keep the GPU; Xvfb without it) and
l2kscalershows it on the real screen, scaled by the GPU with mpv's EWA Lanczos-sharp. Six filters -- nearest, bilinear, bicubic, Lanczos-3, EWA Lanczos, EWA Lanczos-sharp -- an anti-ringing clamp and linear light, all changeable while it runs from the Filter... sheet orl2kscaler --set. Inside it Display Properties lists the real monitors. Off by default; the box warns. - Sharp 2x scaling method: the desktop drawn at twice the largest scale and halved by xrandr, whose bilinear is a clean 2x2 box at 2:1 -- supersampled, nothing stretched. Display Properties refuses a layout that would pass the X server's 16384-pixel ceiling.
- Smooth edges of icons, in Performance Options: icons drawn with their real transparency through XRender, and stepped edges softened, for the shell, the Start menu, the taskbar and every program.
- Medium Start menu icons: Large, Medium (24 pixels) and Small on the Start Menu page.
- Performance Options has its own Control Panel icon.
Fixed
-
On a monitor scaled by xrandr the Resampling choice never reached the screen; Nearest now gives xrandr's nearest, the rest its bilinear.

Xvfb, Xephyr and the GL, XTest, Damage, Fixes and Composite headers are in the installer's package lists.
