Paint. A new program, l2kpaint, in Start > Programs > Accessories: pencil, brush, eraser, line, rectangle, ellipse, fill, colour picker and text tools, layers, undo, zoom, the classic 28-colour palette and a full HSV colour dialog. Opens and saves PNG, JPEG and BMP.
Explorer. The address bar is now typed into: Enter goes there, Tab completes a path, / focuses it. A Search box beside it filters the folder with wildcards (Ctrl+F). Ctrl+wheel and Alt+1..4 switch the view; Ctrl+H shows hidden files.
Tab completion in the file dialog's Look-in box and in Run, which completes paths and programs on $PATH; Run also opens documents and URLs with the desktop's handler.
Permissions on a file's Properties sheet: the octal mode and owner/group/other read/write/execute boxes.
Follow-up in this release: the Start menu's Paint entry pointed at the old program name, Paint gets its icon in the taskbar and pins, Run quotes what it hands to xdg-open and still runs a program given by path, the colour dialog repaints in one request instead of thousands, and Paint's canvas draws correctly under desktop scaling.
